“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” - St Augustine of Hippo
Today, on the Feast of St. Augustine, we remember a man whose life was a journey from restlessness to surrender, from searching for truth to encountering Christ.
Born in North Africa in 354, Augustine spent much of his early life seeking fulfillment in knowledge, success, pleasure, and the things of the world. Yet nothing could satisfy the longing within his heart. Through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, the guidance of St. Ambrose, and the grace of God, Augustine eventually experienced a profound conversion and gave his life completely to Christ.
He became a priest and Bishop of Hippo, dedicating himself to preaching, teaching, defending the faith, and serving God’s people. His writings, especially *Confessions* and *The City of God*, continue to shape Christian thought and speak to the deepest desires of the human heart.
St. Augustine reminds us that no matter how far we wander, God never stops seeking us. His story is a testament to the power of grace, the persistence of prayer, and the truth that our hearts will never find lasting rest in anything less than God Himself.
St. Augustine, pray for us, that we may seek God with sincere hearts and find our true rest in Him 🤍
