We are an order of Sydney based gay male nuns and lesbian monks in Gay, Lesbian and other communities supporting people's natural right to live and love whomever they wish, in the way that is natural for them. We work towards a world where loving someone of the same sex is not a crime, nor is it a reason for shame. We wear antiquated, outdated religious habits which parody the antiquated, outdated

views still held by established religions and those people that propagate hatred and bigotry. We also use "Gay Male Nuns" and "Lesbian Monks" in our terminology,
as there are no such animals in the ranks of the Roman Catholic religion! As "Gay Male Nuns" Sisters use the male pronouns ( he, him, his and himself) when referring to ourselves and each other. Membership of the order is open to anyone who believes they have received the call, irrespective of gender, or gender identity and regardless of race, colour or creed. Sunday 20th April the Sisters had the most blessed little pilgrimage to Tribe tonight for Sunday Sacrifice, showing love for our Sister colleagues Sister Felicity and Sister Pinky.

Surrounded by the gathered faithful, confessions were heard, blessing were given and yes, our dear aspirant Jack was sacrificed for a $50 drink voucher.

And honestly we'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

Thank you Sisters for such a joy filled night.

On Tuesday the 17th February, the Sisters attended a screening of the ABC Compass episode 'Old Habits' at Dendy Cinema Newtown, hosted by Q***r Screen as part of the 2026 Mardi Gras Festival. It was a fabulous evening celebrating the story of our Order on the big screen.

We were joined by Jade, one of our beautiful gathered faithful who won a ticket through the Sisters’ Instagram giveaway and who it was an absolute delight to spend the evening with.

Also in attendance were Sister Beefcake Tenderloins, our resident filmmaker and creator of Old Habits, along with Sister Catheter of the sacred Immaculate Ej*****te, Sister Salomé of the 9th Mystic Rhinestone, Sister Rowena Keeper of the Holy Doyley, and Novice Sister Verandah Gobbie.

Zoo Walk
On 26 February the Sisters gathered on the bustling Circular Quay for early morning sacraments, each keeping one eye out for some salty meat, though sadly the fleet was not in. Undeterred, we joined the gathered faithful and set sail for Taronga Zoo, an annual pilgrimage lovingly led by Ryan and Lee, two of our most devoted supporters.

We met a cheeky young possum before winding our way through the paths, learning about Australia’s beautiful wildlife. Sister Rowena was, as always, close at hand to advise how each beloved creature might best be transformed into a questionable culinary delight. Naturally, we paid our respects to the dingos, our sacred totem and ever watchful guides.

The day wrapped up with the bird show, followed by a spirited gathering at the zoo bar where layers and inhibitions were joyfully shed. A truly wonderful day with wonderful people, and the rain held off just long enough for us to finish… how blessed.

On Wednesday 11 March Sisters Beefcake Tenderloins & Verandah Gobbie gathered with friends and community at Universal to watch the memorial service of Maxi Shield.

Afterwards the community moved together in procession to Taylor Square where Maxi was applauded, roses were thrown, and a sea of people stood together crying, laughing and remembering. It was a powerful moment of love for someone who meant so much to so many.

The evening continued with sacraments at The Beresford Hotel in a celebration fitting of a true queen.

Nothing can replace Maxi or the enormous b**b shaped gap now left in our community. We simply hope the Sisters were a small comforting presence on a night where our community gathered to grieve, remember and hold each other close.

Our thoughts are with Maxi's family friends and all who loved her in this very difficult time 💔🌹🏳️‍🌈

On Saturday 28th February 2026 six members of the Sydney House of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence walked in the Sydney Gay & Le***an Mardi Gras Parade.

The Sisters gathered in the marshalling area, quickly mobbed for photos as the inspirational beauties that we are. Sacraments were shared, stories exchanged with the gathered faithful, and eyes very much appreciated the beautifully toned, half naked bodies surrounding us.

From there we made our way to the starting line and stepped out onto Oxford Street, beneath the watchful gaze of the gathered faithful, message in hand.

Walking were Sister Rowena Keeper of the Holy Doyley, Sister Ophelia Ring, Sister Eileen Dover of The Double Cross, Novice Sister Mary Arse Licked and Old Lace, Novice Pastor Al Dente, & Novice Sister Verandah Gobbie.

Our message?

“NO TO THE FAR RIGHT”

An image of Thomas Sewell silenced with a pink rainbow pacifier said more than words ever could. Hate is not welcome here! Extremism is not welcome here!

The Sisters say no. Just say no!

No to the far right in this country we love.

Yes to our beautiful LGBTQIA+ community.
Yes to joy.
Yes to solidarity.

The Sisters would like to acknowledge and thank William Brougham for the use of his photos and video clip.

On Sunday the 22nd February the Sisters, alongside our dearest Barry Charles, the one and only Troughman, gathered with the faithful at Green Park, the holy site upon which a love chapel once stood and the setting of a daring midnight raid in the 80s to rescue a sacred relic.

This day was not only to honour our own sisterly past, but to hold space for the full tapestry of our community’s history. Pride, sadness, wonder, and love all woven together in the very fabric of Sydney, a city with a deeply q***r story to tell. We made our way toward the Cross, weaving through laughter, solemn reflection, and joyful storytelling from Barry and Sister Rowena, before concluding our pilgrimage in Fitzroy Park.

The gathered faithful were vibrant, engaged, and an absolute delight to walk beside. The Sisters give heartfelt thanks to Barry Charles for his generous spirit and powerful words, and to the Harbour City Bears for lending their microphone. We also extend our gratitude to the local community groups who showed up in support. Bless you all, with love from us all.

In attendance this year were Sister Rowena Keeper of the Holy Doyley, Sister Beefcake TenderLoins Mistress of Media Mischief! Novice Sister Beryl-Lee Noah, Novice Pastor Al Dente of the Damnèd Dental Dam and Novice Sister Verandah Gobbie.

The Sisters acknowledge and thank William Brougham for the use of his photos.

Rise Memorial - Marks Park - Tamarama
Saturday 21st February 2026

At sunrise on Saturday 21st February 2026, Sisters Rowena Keeper of the Holy Doyley and Novice Sister Verandah Gobbie joined other members of the community at Marks Park to honour the lives taken in the wave of anti-LGBTQIA+ violence that scarred Sydney from the 1970s through the 1990s.

Along the cliffs between Bondi and Tamarama, men were targeted, bashed and in too many cases thrown to their deaths. Some of the known victims include Scott Johnson, whose death was finally recognised as a hate crime decades later, and others such as John Russell and David McGuigan. Many more families are still waiting for answers.

Community leaders and representatives from ACON and NSW Police addressed the crowd. The apology delivered by police for historic failures, and in some cases participation, was a moment that carried both grief and weight. Truth does not erase the past, but it matters.

We remember those who were lost here.

We honour the courage of those who fought for justice.

We commit to never allowing hatred to become normalised.

Memory is resistance. Visibility is protection. Love is louder.

The Sisters would like to acknowledge and thank ACON for the use of these beautiful images.

Continuing with our 'Meet the Sisters' series, we introduce Novice Sister Nana Mouskouri Yasou, Greek Nun from Hell.
Although Novice Sister Nana joined the ranks of the RSL (Retired Sisters League) some years ago he maintains his interest in the activities of the Sydney House and still connects with Sisters of the Order.

In 1990 I went to an afternoon house party at Kensington and at the house a Nuncheon was being held. Hosted by Mother Desmond Three Three, With A Bloody Good Tan. Interesting. Shortly after I purchased a terrace in Redfern and one of my first housemates who eventually became my closest friend was Mary Desmond (Raymond Prasad).

On many occasions Mary Desmond hosted a Nuncheon at my terrace and I met many of the Sisters. There were many of the Sisters that I liked. I was curious and interested and started attending some Nuncheons away from my home.

On the 4th of March 1995 after talking to Mother Abyss, Mary Desmond and other Sisters I finally decided to manifest in a lavender habit borrowed from Mother Abyss. A wonderful night.

Shortly after Mother Abyss was kind enough to make my first habit for me and I started to manifest regularly and began my training with Sister MMQC (Sister Mary Mary Quite Contrary).

So why Sister NanaNana Mouskouri Yasou? I chose the name because I look so ethnic.

On 26th May 1997 I commenced a job at a Theological College and even though shortly after starting I was open about being gay I thought my continuing my Sisterly activities could be a bit too much. So, I became an RSL Sister but continued my support for the Sisters by offering my apartment for their meetings and being responsible for the Sisters finances until my health failed.

I have made some wonderful friends through the Sisters.

Blessing of the Mardi Gras Workshop
Saturday 7th February 2026

And thus it came to pass that the Sisters ventured forth, setting sail in Sister Verandah’s noble four wheeled carriage toward the Mardi Gras workshop. After bravely confronting red lights, Saturday morning traffic, and the occasional vehicular trial of faith, Sisters Salomé, Ophelia, Verandah and Brother Pastor Al Dente arrived only three or four moments beyond fashionably late.

The gathered faithful were already hard at work, volunteers bent over floats and costumes, brushes flying, sequins sparkling, and board members hovering with purpose. The Sisters and Brother made their slightly extended entrance to warm anticipation, drifting through the space with holy curiosity. Not a single paint fume went unappreciated. Not a single skimpy ensemble escaped inspection. Every glittered limb and power tool was acknowledged in the name of joyous mischief.

When the moment arrived, centre stage was claimed. Sister Salomé took the lead with a blessing carefully prepared for the occasion, his words rising above the hum of drills and devotion. Novice Sister Verandah, sacred vessel in hand, dispensed the Great Mother Dingo’s most sacred offering, sprinkling and splashing tools, sponsors, sequins, volunteers, and the occasional unsuspecting bystander with moist and merry benediction.

Laughter rose. Spirits lifted. Paint continued to dry under a thin sheen of holiness.

After the blessing, the Sisters lingered among the faithful and board members alike, sharing stories and solidarity. Sister Salomé offered timely words of wisdom for troubled times, grounding the glitter in purpose and reminding all present why the work matters.

And so, with blessings bestowed and fumes thoroughly inhaled, the Sisters once again set sail toward the sunset and a late afternoon Nuncheon at Sister Eileen’s Inner West convent, their mission of joy, mischief and ministry gloriously intact.
