OFFICIAL PUBLIC STATEMENT
SINDHI ASSOCIATION AUSTRALIA
9 August 2026
PROTECTION OF SINDH’S UNITY AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS
Sindhi Association Australia expresses its grave concern over recent calls for creating new provinces or administrative units that could lead to the division of Sindh or the separation of Karachi from its historic province.
We categorically reject any unilateral attempt to alter Sindh’s boundaries.
Article 239 of Pakistan’s Constitution requires approval from at least two-thirds of the total membership of the Sindh Assembly, together with the constitutionally required approval of both Houses of Parliament. The Sindh Assembly has already passed a formal resolution rejecting the division of Sindh and the separation of Karachi.
We call upon the Federal Government of Pakistan to immediately provide an unequivocal public assurance that:
1. No proposal, bill or constitutional amendment seeking to divide Sindh will be introduced or supported.
2. Sindh’s boundaries will not be altered without its constitutionally mandated consent.
3. Sindh’s provincial autonomy and the cultural, linguistic, political and economic rights of its people will be fully respected.
4. Governance concerns will be addressed through empowered and properly funded local governments—not by fragmenting historic provinces.
If these calls are not withdrawn, or if any formal proposal to divide Sindh is introduced, Sindhi Association Australia will work with Sindhi organisations worldwide to pursue the following peaceful, democratic and lawful actions:
• Prepare a comprehensive international dossier containing Article 239, the 1940 Lahore Resolution, the Sindh Assembly Resolution of 3 March 1943, the 2026 Sindh Assembly resolution, official government statements and the text of any proposed legislation. Our case will be based on verified evidence—not social-media rumours.
• Approach Australian federal MPs, senators, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and relevant parliamentary committees, requesting Australia to urge Pakistan to respect constitutional consent, provincial autonomy and Sindhi cultural and linguistic rights.
• Initiate an Australian parliamentary e-petition and seek a formal response from the Australian Government.
• Place the matter before relevant United Nations human-rights mechanisms if a formal bill or policy emerges, or if peaceful opponents face arrests, intimidation, enforced disappearances, censorship or restrictions on peaceful assembly.
• Coordinate lawful and peaceful demonstrations outside Pakistani diplomatic missions in Australia and internationally, supported by the same evidence-based legal memorandum.
• Brief international human-rights organisations, democratic institutions and credible media about any unconstitutional action or repression connected with the proposed division of Sindh.
This position is not directed against any ethnic, linguistic or cultural community. Every peaceful resident of Sindh is entitled to equality, dignity, security and political representation. Our stand is against division, discrimination and unconstitutional interference.
Sindh’s unity is not negotiable. A federation survives through consent—not coercion.
SINDH WAS ONE.
SINDH IS ONE.
SINDH SHALL REMAIN ONE.
