ROTARY TRIVIA NIGHT TURNS FUN INTO BOOKS FOR MOREE EAST
Laughter, friendly rivalry and a shared commitment to helping children access books were all part of the mix when the Rotary Club of Turramurra held its annual Trivia Fundraising Night on Tuesday 18 August 2026.

Now in its fifth year, the event raises funds to support the Books in Homes program at Moree East Public School. This year’s Trivia Night attracted 110 registrations, bringing together members from eight Rotary clubs, along with friends and family, and raised an impressive $6,100.

The evening featured plenty of good-natured competition, including trivia, a silent auction, raffle, caption competition and a lively game of “Sit down if…”. Local businesses and Rotary Club members generously donated prizes, including accommodation, paintings, resin art, baby blankets, champagne, food and fashion vouchers and a tour of Parliament House, with a box of beautiful new children’s books contributed by Books in Homes, which was also eagerly snapped up during the evening.

Books in Homes enters a dormant term during Term 3, 2026 but we like to pause and celebrate our Term 2, 2026 Book Giving Assemblies and to thank our Sponsors. In this case, we want to highlight Lemnos Primary School. Lemnos is a small rural town in northern Victoria, located in the Shepparton / Goulburn Valley region. The school is proudly sponsored by the Kensington Gardens Craft Group, and we know for a fact that the students, whose numbers range from 6 to 10 over the course of the year, LOVE receiving their books-of-choice each term.

We want to make this week art week. We're sharing some of the wonderful student artworks from the Term 1, 2026 Role Model Competition. The theme on that occasion was inspired by our Book Catalogue Role Model, illustrator and comic book artist Dean Rankine. We asked students to create a drawing of something they would like to see come to life. We received many original and creative artistic works. Seems like aliens and space travel, dragons, plus a few angry mushrooms, is a good starting point.

Occasionally, schools on our program (especially those in remote areas with low internet bandwidth) will ask our Role Models to pre-record videos for their Book Giving Assemblies, rather than participate live or virtually. One such case was the recent Term 2, 2026 Book Giving Assembly at Wilcannia Central School in outback NSW. Thank you to author K M (Kate) Steele who did an incredible job in encouraging Wilcannia students to enjoy sourcing and reading their books-of-choice. Extra points for kids who read horse books like Kate!
