One of mumsie’s jumpers. Such a sweet baby goat.
Remember back in April when Trinity Valdez and Seraphina walked some abandoned goats back to Kindly?
After them having some health care, a little vet check etc they eventually moved from the barn to a paddock with maremmas.
The younger one appeared to have a slight udder but there were no changes over weeks and she didn't appear to be pregnant.
I was back at that paddock just before dark yesterday.
The dogs were being strange and all staring at me quietly.
Two were over guarding the bushes.
I went to investigate and found this little baby girl and her mama.
She had only just been born and was still wet and mucky.
She didn't like being picked up and yelled.
The dogs said to put her down.
Its cold and wet, she's an inexperienced mother and still getting used to maremmas.
I was very proud of the 10 dogs and pups in that paddock.
Many of the dogs in there haven't experienced newborns so I had to call Trinity,
Nicolas Nicolas Noiset and Alexia to help because I couldn't use my broken arm to get mama and baby to the barn.
The mama is a child bride and was in a bit of shock.
In the barn the baby did have some colostrum from a syringe.
During the night they have bonded a bit and talk to each other.
A very special thank you to Knitting for Australian Dog Rescue Groups for this cute coat on the baby and for many others they have made for Kindly.
We are very grateful to Phillip Skewes for bringing some hay down for us on Friday.
Such a generous and kind man.
The rain has made the animals extra hungry and some cold weather has kicked in.
The rain has been wonderful but too late in the season to grow proper feed.
We desperately need to keep raising funds for feed as we will be feeding all winter.
Tomorrow is June 1st so tax time is just around the corner.
If you can make a tax deductible donation to keep the animals fed through winter, that would be amazing.
Each big bale costs around $500 and the bales weigh over 600kg.
Really wish we owned a bobcat or tractor to handle them and make things more efficient.
Thank you to Zac Hooper for coming home for 2 weeks to help.
He left yesterday so that was sad.
He was an invaluable help doing all the jobs that are hard for mere mortals.
Like wrangling an unwilling Birdy ostrich into a trailer and into barn for medical treatment, capturing an angry, unfriendly mule who absconded with a head collar on and somehow had is leg caught in it too.
I've never seen a head collar that strong. Most would have just broken.
Zac also moved heavy things, cut wood, fed lots of things, stocked up stuff for animals at my place so I don't have to carry things, cooked and much more.
Our wonderful backpackers might be able to extend there stay.
So we need to be able to rent the caravan for another 3 or 4 weeks as accommodation for them.
