There is nothing like the view from the podium to change how you understand music! These young musicians described their time at Conducting Camp 2026 as everything from "terrifying" to "empowering" – and far more complicated than just waving a hand! 😄👋🏻

Best of all, they walked away with fresh insights to enrich their own playing while enjoying the chance to connect with fellow young musicians. 🤩

A huge round of applause for these young musicians – just listen to them! 🤩 👏🏻 They performed wonderfully at the 11th QVB Classical Pop-Up Concert. It was a memorable showcase across a range of instruments, including a Guzheng performance to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Another round of applause for the 10 participants of Conducting Camp 2026! 👏👏 In just 3 short days, we witnessed remarkable growth. Watching them command the podium left all of us – and their families cheering them on in the audience – beaming with pride. 🥹✨

Armed with new conducting skills, we hope this experience deepens their appreciation of music, and that some might even become conductors themselves someday!

Bravo, everyone! 🪄🎶

And of course, another huge thank you to Sydney Concert Orchestra for helping us make this possible.

Final day! ✨ The Conducting Camp culminated with our participants taking to the podium in front of family and friends, showcasing everything they’ve learned over the past 3 days.

They conducted a quintet from the Sydney Concert Orchestra, choosing from a selection of pieces by Mozart, Bartók, and Dvořák – do you recognise your favourite piece? 😉

Conducting Camp Day 2! 🪄

Lots of podium time today, which is always daunting (but exciting) when you’re stepping up in front of your peers. Having a baton in hand is still very new for some of them, so today was all about getting comfortable – finding the confidence and putting some expression into each gesture. You can tell they had a lot of fun exploring! (Plus, a gentle reminder on slide 2 about exactly where to point the stick! 😉)

In the last video, you'll see they have an imaginary quintet lined up for them to conduct – these will become a live quintet from Sydney Concert Orchestra tomorrow, the final day! 🥳

Day 1 of Conducting Camp was something special! 🤩 Our 10 participants spent the day working closely with the Sydney Concert Orchestra principal conductor, Omid Mohebzadeh. It meant stepping right out of their comfort zone – even for high-level musicians, conducting individually brought some initial nerves – but everyone rose to the challenge brilliantly and even backed each other up every step of the way!

It was also a hands-on review of their music theory, exploring simple and compound time through a fresh but far more intimate lens than what they're used to in performance or practice.

Even the lunch break was so much fun! We went to the Sydney Fish Market, amazingly just minutes from the amazing venue, Master Music Studio!

Well done all – bring on Day 2! 🥳

Classical music is for everyone, and it’s all about bringing our community together! 🎶 Australian Piano Warehouse has been a constant supporter. Their NSW General Manager, Katherine Ly, really shares our vision and has believed in our team right from the very start – we're so grateful! 💜 In our last pop-up concert, they gave our participants tokens of appreciation for sharing their music with the community.

You should totally show them some love by stopping by their store in North Willoughby! 🎹 They've also teamed up with us for our Concert Listening Challenge, so you can definitely swing by to grab your cards and prizes there, too! 😊

Wow, wasn't that classical pop-up at QVB last Saturday just incredible? ✨ We had such a cool showcase of different instruments – free, top-notch performances on the saxophone, piano, cello, flute, and even the guzheng to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival! 😊

A huge thank you to the Australian Piano Warehouse for their incredible support! Their NSW General Manager, Katherine Ly, actually came out to congratulate the performers herself and gave them some lovely tokens of appreciation for sharing their music with everyone. 💜
