President of Young Labor Left, Jemma Hardman, gave an address at the NSW Labor State Conference over the weekend about the rise of Pauline Hanson's One Nation.
As many know, Pauline attempts to divide Australians, saying that we should blame immigration, and 'wokeness' for the high cost of living, and stagnant wages. In reality, it is the constant attacks on workers and support for billionaires like Gina Rinehart that is keeping workers wages low and rents high.
In this time of crisis, Labor cannot abandon it's progressive values and capitulate on issues that impact so many lives. Our movement was built on the idea that government can materially improve the lives of working people. When we are bold enough to act on that belief and make big changes that alter the status quo, we make the politics of grievance less attractive and bring back the disaffected.
