This morning, the Hon Josh Wilson MP and the Hon Tanya Plibersek MP stopped by Inner Sydney Voice to speak with Grant and Fiorella about our Done By Us project.

Our peer educators shared how the peer-led program is helping social and community housing residents prepare for extreme heat and heatwaves, drawing on local knowledge and trusted community connections to make preparedness information practical and accessible.

With another very hot summer ahead, programs like Done By Us are helping communities most exposed to extreme heat build preparedness and resilience before heatwaves arrive.

The project is supported through the Federal Government’s Disaster Ready Fund and the NSW Government.

Today we said thank you to the frontline workers who support children and families across inner Sydney every day.

Inner Sydney Thanks You is about making space to recognise the people whose work often happens behind the scenes but who make an enormous difference to children, families and communities across our region.

We know it isn’t always easy for frontline workers to step away from busy services and demanding schedules, so a special thank you also goes to the managers and team leaders who nominated their staff, made it possible for them to attend, and took the time to recognise the incredible contribution they make.

What a great turnout for Intergenerational Knitting at Green Square! 🧶

A big thank you to Margaret from Wrapped with Love for showing us the ropes and helping everyone get started.

From high school students to retirees, people across generations came together to knit squares that will be joined into blankets for people experiencing the effects of cold and trauma in Australia and around the world.

What other intergenerational activities would you like to see in Green Square?

It’s your last day to nominate a frontline CAFS worker for this year’s Inner Sydney Thanks You celebration!

Are you a manager at a CAFS-funded service in our region? Is there one or two frontline workers you’d like to see recognised for the work they do supporting children and families?

We’ve loved reading the nominations so far and hearing about the incredible work happening across our region, much of which goes without enough recognition.

Nominate a frontline worker today and help us celebrate the people who make a difference every day.

Residents previously came together at Poet’s Corner Community Garden for a Redfern Clean Up, collecting 15 bags of rubbish in under an hour. It was a great example of how a simple local activity can bring neighbours together while making a visible difference.

Inspired to get involved? The next community clean-up is happening tomorrow in Waterloo.

We had such a great day working with our newest group of peer educators!

You might recognise some familiar faces from Waterloo 2050, Digital Mentoring and Done By Us.

For our latest project, we’ve brought this group together to explore how to combat misinformation, have respectful conversations without judgement, and use their lived experience and trusted community connections to share reliable information and resources.

Could greater collaboration between generations help us address some of our biggest challenges, from housing and climate change to loneliness and inequality?

For the next issue of Inner Sydney Voice magazine, we're looking for contributions exploring intergenerational solidarity through policy, research, community practice and lived experience.

You might pitch:
- Policy analysis or research on housing, climate justice, loneliness, care or economic inequality
- A personal story about an intergenerational friendship or relationship
- A reflection on what you have learned from someone older or younger
- A profile of an Elder or older person making a difference in their community
- A community project bringing different generations together
An exploration of our responsibilities to younger, older and future generations
- An opinion piece challenging stereotypes or manufactured divisions between generations

We welcome articles, interviews, essays, personal reflections, photography, illustrations, poetry and other creative contributions. We are particularly interested in local stories from across Inner Sydney and perspectives that are often overlooked.

You do not need to submit a completed article. Send a short pitch to [email protected] outlining your idea by Monday 3 August 2026.

Successful contributors will be asked to submit their final piece by Friday 21 August 2026, for publication on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Another huge intergenerational turnout for line dancing in Green Square!

We’ve loved watching neighbours of all ages get to know each other over the past five weeks. Next Wednesday is our final session with The Saddle Club and the City of Sydney, but the connections made through the program are already inspiring plenty more community activities.

Come along for one last dance from 6–7pm!
