Achilles Sydney

The Sydney chapter of the Achilles Running Club was started in 1996. It is part of a worldwide organisation represented within about 60 countries.

We train on Sunday mornings at 8am. Unless advised otherwise we meet for training outside the Art Gallery of NSW.

There is only one thing better than doing the iconic City2Surf and that is doing it with your running club! 💛

It is one of the biggest events on the Achilles-Sydney racing calendar.

We had teams in every start wave and we had a great time racing with 90,000 of our closest friends.

Achilles members felt great support from the crowd and hope you felt that support back. 😀

We thank Ironman Australia for their generous assistance in getting our 50 members to the start line. 🏆

Are you doing the City2Surf this weekend?

You might see one of our athletes and their sighted guide/s. We have 17 teams this year!

We wear bright yellow for:

💡 High visibility for race organizers and volunteers,

💫 Alerting runners that our athletes with vision loss need extra space,

⭐️ representing Achilles International althetes and guides all over the world.

As its a very busy race we thought you might like to know:

🟡 Blind/VIP runners use tethers to physically connect to a guide to coordinate pace and movement.

🚧 Verbal cues: Guides constantly communicate ground surfaces, obstacles, hazards, and course changes.

⚠️ You may hear one of our guides call: “Blind runner coming through!” Please give them room (if possible). The athletes and guides are trying to pass safely without being separated.

🌟 Athletes may be tethered to one guide with another guide in the front or have one guide on each side.

💛 We can't wait to race with you this Sunday in this awesome community event.

An and collab! 👟👟

Earlier this year Asics made a very generous gift of running shoes to our athletes.

We hope for some speedy/run walks powered by running shoes and energy!! 💫

💡Throwback Thursday💡
Sunshine ☀️and Smiles 😃 abounded when athletes and guides took part in the 5km and 10km at The Domain and in Parramatta on Sunday 7th May. This is always such a joyous community event (for a cause) where participants walk or run for breast and ovarian cancer research. This event has been going for 28 years and has raised $50.8 million since 1998.

Achilles Sydney is having a great race season! On Sunday we participated in the Real Insurance Harbour 10 with our largest number of teams ever across the 10km and the 5km events on a gorgeous sunny day☀️with over 8,000 other participants across both distances.

The race was superbly organised and we appreciated the very enthusiastic and encouraging race emcee!

💛 A poem from our member, Rachel 💛

I love life…

I love it all, I simply love.
I love nature, love to laugh,
Love to dance,
Love what there is and what there is not, I understand it is all for the best,
I invite to my life what I need and I bless what He above gives.
I believe in good karma.

I love people and prefer the best between them. To know all passes,
Nothing happens just by accident. This I remind to myself. It is a choice.
So what … love the alone time, the small God speaking to me from inside.

I love the small everyday experiences, to live the now as much as is possible, to search for the small moments of happiness.
Love the creativity, the arts, the soul within the things, music, nature, clothes.
Love without a reason, simply love.

Love the sea, the wind, the sound of the waves.
Love the sunset and myself in the mirror.
This is the body I received and it is a gift,
Love myself,
Full stop.

There’s nothing our athletes and their guides love more than a wide flat course 😉

On the weekend a group of Achilles athletes and their guides had an incredible once in a lifetime run at the new Western Sydney International Airport Runway Run. Thanks for having us!
