GrainGrowers has today announced Chief Executive Officer Shona Gawel has resigned and will finish with the organisation prior to Christmas, with a recruitment process for her successor already under way.

Chair Rhys Turton thanked Ms Gawel for her extraordinary contribution and leadership to the grains sector, including successfully leading the industry through a particularly challenging year in 2026, and wished her all the best in her new role.

"The introduction of a membership class for SFOs within GrainGrowers, confirmed at yesterday’s AGM, is an example of how Shona has led positive evolution within our business for members’ benefit,” he said.

Ms Gawel said: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as CEO of GrainGrowers. I am deeply grateful for the support of our board and our wonderful members across the country."

GrainGrowers members have re-elected Chair Rhys Turton (York, WA) and Grower Director Richard Konzag (Mallala, SA) as Western Region Directors on the GrainGrowers Board.

This marks Rhys’s fourth term as a director, including four years as Chair, and Richard’s third term.

GrainGrowers members vote in favour of constitutional change 🌾

GrainGrowers members have voted in favour of historic constitutional changes which will strengthen the organisation's ability to advocate on behalf of grain growers nationally.

The constitutional amendment, which passed at today’s Annual General Meeting, creates a pathway for State Farming Organisations (SFO) to apply for membership of GrainGrowers.

This will enable the SFOs to contribute to policy development through GrainGrowers’ National Policy Group, while maintaining GrainGrowers' grower-led and grower-governed structure.

Reminder to vote in the 2026 AGM! 🌾

Members are encouraged to vote for GrainGrowers Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

As part of the AGM, members will vote on the Western Region Director Election and proposed changes to the Constitution. The proposed amendments would allow State Farming Organisations to apply for membership, strengthening national advocacy for growers.
