Last year, our community member Ofir Birenbaum was falsely accused by staff at Cairo Takeaway of staging an antisemitic incident.

Ofir’s name was broadcast globally, his home was raided, and he lost his job as a result. He and his wife have lived in fear ever since.

Here’s the truth: Ofir entered Cairo Takeaway with journalists documenting the experiences of Australian Jews amid rising antisemitism. He ordered a tea and left. The abuse that followed was relentless and deeply consequential.

Ofir is now fighting to clear his name in the Federal Court. The legal battle is significant, and the personal toll has been devastating.

If funds exceed legal costs, surplus will be donated to the Jewish Centre for Law and Justice to support others affected by antisemitism.

A police officer who fell fighting Hamas invaders on October 7, 2023 - first to go in, last to return.
