Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards - RESCA

Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards - RESCA Rotary NSW Emergency Services Community Awards recognises Emergency Services for Community Service over and beyond the call of normal duty.

In line with Rotary's motto of "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" - the NSW Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) will recognise Emergency Services for COMMUNITY SERVICE above and beyond the call of normal duty. RESCA aims to uncover and recognise those ‘unsung heroes’ who do a selfless act or provide exceptional service to the community purely for the nobility of their profession and the service

organisation they proudly represent. While individual services have specific internal awards, the NSW Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards is the first time all New South Wales Emergency Services personnel, both a paid and volunteer, will be recognised in a combined awards program. The Awards are endorsed by all seven NSW Emergency Service Organisations. Joint Vice-Regal Patronage is provided by Her Excellency The Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC Governor of NSW and Mr Wilson. It is important to note that these very special Awards are not meant to replace the individual Agencies’ own Bravery or Service Awards. The proceeds generated from RESCA benefit two Rotary initiatives:
1. An Australian Rotary Health PhD Research Scholarship investigating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Emergency Service Workers

2. Rotary and RESCA are jointly funding the deployment of a Vocational Training Team, providing disaster preparedness training to developing countries within the Asia Pacific region, with Tonga as the next destination selected.

NO DUFF!

Yesterday was planned as a day of meetings, planning and debriefing with Tonga Fire & Emergency Services.

After returning to the Tanoa International Dateline Hotel for what was meant to be a relaxing afternoon, our Team Leader received a call asking the VTT to assist other guests staying at the hotel.

Members of the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia are in Tonga for their 67th General Synod and are also staying at the Tanoa. While members of the group were out whale watching, one of their boats sank.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, although several people were transported to hospital for observation.

The Tonga Emergency Services - Rotary VTT met the group on their return to the hotel and assisted with first aid and welfare support.

This morning, Team Leader Paul and Paramedic Monty met with the group again to check on their welfare before they began their journeys home.

Before leaving, the Bishops, Chaplains and leaders of the group led a prayer, thanking and blessing the VTT team for the help and support they had provided.

It was a very special and humbling moment for our team, and certainly not something we expected when we started the day.

The Tonga Emergency Services – Rotary VTT — always ready to help the Tongan community and its visitors. 🇹🇴🤝🇦🇺
