A strong step forward for the Australian surveying profession.

Surveyors Australia has signed an MoU with ASEAN FLAG at SEASC 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, strengthening connections between surveyors in Australia and across Southeast Asia.

As the national body representing surveying in Australia, we are committed to building the relationships that create opportunities for our profession nationally and internationally.

This agreement opens the door to collaboration on education, professional development, technology, knowledge sharing, professional mobility and stronger industry connections.

It is particularly fitting to sign the MoU as ASEAN FLAG celebrates 30 years of regional leadership.

We are proud to be representing Australian surveying on the international stage and look forward to what we can build together.

Know your code: 241232, Engineering Surveyor.

Whether you set out road, rail, tunnels or towers, your Census answer is ‘Engineering Surveyor’, or ‘Certified Engineering Surveyor’ if you hold CES certification. Describe tasks like: set out infrastructure, manage survey control networks, deliver as-constructed surveys.

And a note on qualifications: OSCA designates Engineering Surveyor as a Skill Level 1 occupation, but explicitly allows five years of professional experience to substitute for a university degree.

Australia’s $242 billion infrastructure pipeline is built on your measurements.

Make sure the workforce data reflects who is doing the building. https://www.surveyorsaustralia.org.au/resources/census-2026/

Behind the scenes, Surveyors Australia has been hard at work.

This week we lodged two major submissions to the Australian Government:

📐 A Fair Work Commission submission calling for a modern Surveying Award that reflects today’s profession.

🤝 A Treasury submission seeking fairer contract and procurement practices for small surveying businesses.

This is the work that often goes unseen, but it helps shape the future of our profession.

Supporting surveyors.
Strengthening businesses.
Building the future.

Surveyors Australia is proud to launch the FIG Young Surveyors Network for Australia.

This new network will help students and early career surveyors connect, build confidence, grow as leaders and engage with the global surveying community.

It is all about supporting the next generation of surveyors and creating new pathways for involvement, leadership and professional growth.

We cannot wait to see this network grow.

A big week for Surveyors Australia.

This week we continued representing the profession across:

• Fair Work Commission discussions on the Surveying Award
• National education reform through our ATEC submission
• Small business, skills and tax policy discussions in Canberra
• World Hydrography Day
• Thought leadership on geodesy and geospatial capability
• The Consulting Surveyors NSW State Conference at NSW Parliament House

Surveying supports housing, infrastructure, land, water, emergency response, development and national productivity.

That is why the profession needs a strong voice where decisions are being made.

Advocacy. Standards. Workforce. Leadership.

That is Surveyors Australia in action.

Today is World Hydrography Day.

Much of the world around us is mapped, measured and understood because of surveyors. But some of the most important work happens beneath the water’s surface.

Hydrographers help us understand what we cannot see, supporting safe navigation, stronger communities, better infrastructure and healthier marine environments.

Today, we celebrate the professionals whose expertise helps us navigate, build, protect and prosper.

Because what lies beneath the surface often shapes everything above it.

Happy World Hydrography Day.
