Creative Womyn Down Under

Creative Womyn Down Under Creative Womyn Down Under (CWDU) develops and supports opportunities for womyn to participate in creative experiences.

Established on Gadigal and Wangal Land in Sydney, 2006 as a voluntary community initiative by Gabrielle Journey Jones and Georgina JD Abrahams our vision "Connecting Womyn & Creative Expression" is about developing networks and friendships amongst all who identify as womyn in Australia. These connections are nurtured via our own events (festivals, concerts, workshops, support groups and retreats)

and the provision of interesting links and useful information to support women's creativity on social media. For the latest news on our upcoming and recent events visit and follow our page. Please Support Our Project

Our flagship weekly event the "Homeless Womyn's Lunch Project" in Sydney's Inner West has been facilitated by Georgina since 2008 providing a free lunch, social support and creative arts activities for women experiencing homelessness, escaping from violence and/or requiring mental health assistance. To make a financial donation to help us provide healthy vegetarian lunches every week which cost around $180 (up to 65 women attend), please make a direct deposit to this bank account. Your $5, $10 or $20 will make a big difference. Ensure you leave your name with the deposit so we can thank you personally and list your business above if you choose. Georgina Abrahams

Massive appreciation to Ginninderra Press for publishing my latest poetry collection 'Arrangements'. It has been wonderful to work with Debbie Lee and her team, who are continuing the legacy of Brenda Mathews and the late Stephen Mathews, who began Ginninderra Press in Canberra, 1996. I am also grateful for the 2024 Red Room Poetry Fellowship week at Varuna Writers House to complete the final draft of this book. Julia Jacobs cover artwork is stunning. I appreciate all of the creative adventures we have shared. So much thanks and big love to my family and friends who are the most important part of the life arrangements we make and share together.

🌸 NEW RELEASE 🌸

'Arrangements' by Gabrielle Journey Jones
Published by Ginninderra Press

How do you make space for self-care, family, activism, creativity and work—all at once?

In her fourth poetry collection, Gabrielle Journey Jones explores the delicate art of balance. Like a lovingly gathered flower arrangement, 'Arrangements' is a vivid, heartfelt celebration of the everyday capturing the rhythms of modern life through a poetic lens grounded in presence, purpose, and joy.

Gabrielle is a poet, percussionist, event producer and social worker, with roots in Maori and African heritage. Born on Gadigal Land and based on Yuin Country, her work inspires connection and community.

With 30+ years of poetry experience and three previous collections with Ginninderra Press, Gabrielle’s voice is bold, rhythmic and deeply human.

The gender pain gap is real. There are so many stories of women and trans and gender diverse (TGD) people being dismissed and gaslit about health problems they’re dealing with. This issue is tenfold for BIPOC, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and TGD people in Australia.

Not only do doctors dismiss our health concerns, gaslight us about our symptoms and ignore our pain, they literally don’t know much about our health because there’s limited research.

Across the board of ALL illnesses women are diagnosed 4 years later than men¹

• Before 1993, women were rarely included in clinical trials²

• 80% of people with auto immune disorders are women³ and there’s limited research and treatment for these conditions

• 80% of autistic women remain undiagnosed at 18- 4

• For ADHD on average its 6 years later - 5

• Trans and gender diverse people are medically marginalised even further, with limited research and availability of safe and affirming healthcare6
