Cars For Hope

Cars For Hope The official page of Cars For Hope - the automotive enthusiast mental health initiative.

We are a different kind of mental health charity - we’re 100% funded by car enthusiasts on a mission to drive towards the end of mental health stigma. Established in 2011, the Cars For Hope charity organisation is a non-profit movement of passionate automotive enthusiasts who are dedicated to driving hope towards those suffering from depression, anxiety, self-injury and raising awareness of the is

sues surrounding mental illness to the Australian public. Mental illness in Australia and around the world is still greatly misunderstood. Millions of people are directly affected by mental illness, however people often avoid talking about how they are feeling in fear of how they may be perceived by others. Cars For Hope advocates regular conversation about mental health and hopes to incite discussion of these issues more frequently between families, friends and loved ones. Through our website, social media network and at automotive-based events Cars For Hope strives towards: educating the community about the importance of mental health and; reinforcing the importance of and providing a means of seeking professional help for those who may be suffering from mental illness.

“I’m a lucky person because at the age of 47, things are not over yet”

Alex Zanardi passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the age of 59.

This is his story.
But there are millions of Cars For Hope stories.
Sharing your story not only has the power to heal you, but it also has the power to help others as well. Remember that someone else might need to hear your story just as much as you need to tell it.
Your story could give someone strength, keep them hopeful, or even just remind them that they are not alone.

You matter. Even on your bad days, your messy days, your hard days. You matter.

Words from F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg:

"Some of the loneliest moments of my life happened when the world thought I was living the dream.

When I was racing, everyone saw the wins. But they didn’t see the pressure that came with it. Success can be a very lonely place. And it’s not just true in sport. It’s also true in business.

I was talking with a founder the other day, and he told me that over 55% of business leaders experience loneliness.

I understand that feeling well.

When Lewis and I were fighting for the title at Mercedes, the team had to stay super neutral. But the intense rivalry inside our own garage created a very isolating atmosphere.

That experience taught me something important:

Don’t wait until things feel dark to build your support system.

Pressure can isolate you.
The weight of responsibility can isolate you.
And having to be the one who always has all the answers can be super tough.

People rarely see internal struggle.
They don’t see the doubt.
The fear.
The weight.

For me, my family has always been that safe place. And I’ve got some epic friends who have stood by my side throughout it all (I even work with a couple of them). They are my sounding board. We all need that. It’s super important to talk with someone when you feel alone.

It could be with a partner. A mentor. A trusted colleague. A mental health coach (this also helped me a ton!) Or a friend.

Being strong doesn’t have to mean carrying everything alone. In fact, the earlier you ask for support, the stronger you become. In business, and in life!

Have you overcome loneliness or feelings of isolation? Let me know how in the comments... maybe you’ll realise that you’re not alone after all..."

Today, March 1, is Self-Injury Awareness Day. It is a special day that we hold close to our hearts as we began as a way to tell the story of our friend, Annabel who struggled with self-injury

Today is a dedication to her. You may not know Annabel, but this is for sure: there is a good chance you know an Annabel. Maybe you are an Annabel. Either way, you are breathing, living, reading these words and reflecting on the life that led you here. Today is for you too.

14 years ago we created campaign because we all need a little help sometimes. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to talk about self-injury and mental health. Thank you so much for being part of our story.

Hello everyone!

We hope this Christmas is a great time with loved ones, and a chance to reflect on what’s important. We know that every home is different. Every story is different. And a lot of things go missing.

To those of you who lost loved ones this year, we want to say we’re sorry. To those of you with loved ones who are sick or overseas, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cars For Hope began as a way to say that life is hard for a lot of people, but it’s worth living. And that hope is real. And storms do pass. We have more in common than we might guess at first glance. And if that’s true, then we’re not alone.

Much of life is a gift: Friendship. Laughter. Community. Conversation. Hope. Love. We hope this Christmas, and in the days that follow, that you get some time to appreciate the greatest gifts, to mourn for things gone missing, to begin to let go where you need to, and to fight for the things you’re supposed to.

We’re part of a surprising story. Bigger than ourselves and older than time. It is a redemption story.

From all of us at your to you, Merry Christmas.
