Every year, hundreds of Irish Australians turn to the Irish Support Agency in their most vulnerable moments. They are people we all know, and this financial year, we need your help to be there for them.

Think of the people in your life, the friend who moved to Sydney for a fresh start, the teammate who always seemed to be holding things together, the colleague who quietly struggled after a tough year. The people who come to the Irish Support Agency are not strangers. They are part of our community, our clubs, our workplaces, our friendship groups.

From 1st July 2025, the Irish Support Agency has supported 350 people across NSW. These are people navigating bereavement, workplace accidents, unemployment and, increasingly, mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, psychosis and addiction. We have also seen a significant rise in domestic and family violence cases, emerging in ways we could not have anticipated.

This year, our Outreach Team, Mairead and Connie, travelled more than 4,000 kms across Greater Sydney. For some of the seniors they visit, this support provides their only face to face connection. Senior support has become our largest area of need, with 59 people assisted this year. Mental health support was the second highest area of demand, with 37 people seeking assistance.

We also provided 47 food and clothing vouchers to individuals experiencing financial hardship. As cost of living pressures continue to affect communities across Sydney, the need for the services and support offered by the ISA has never been greater.

Your donation helps ensure that when someone in our community needs support, they find it. It funds senior outreach, mental health assistance, emergency food and clothing, and the quiet, tireless work that never makes headlines but changes lives. Please give before 30 June.

The Irish Support Agency is a registered charity. Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible. All funds raised support Irish Australians in NSW.

โญCommunity Donation โญ

The Irish Support Agency was delighted to receive an incredibly generous donation of $1200 from Comhaltas Sydney - raised through a community trivia night at Rusty's Coogee and presented at their Gig Mรณr na Fleadh at the Gaelic Club on 23 May.

Comhaltas Sydney is a wonderful, volunteer-run organisation, united by their passion for bringing Irish music to the forefront of the Sydney cultural scene and seeing the expansion of the Fleadh across Sydney this year was a testament to all of their hard work across the year.

This donation, coming from one community organisation to another, is especially meaningful.

โญVolunteer Appreciation โญ

As National Volunteer Week has recently come to a close, we were delighted to recognise and celebrate some of the dedicated volunteers who support our Befriending Programme.

Our Befriending Programme connects volunteers with older members of the community who may be experiencing isolation or seeking companionship. It is a truly rewarding initiative for everyone involved and relies on the commitment, kindness, and generosity of our volunteers.

Every volunteer who supports the Irish Support Agency plays an invaluable role in our work. Quite simply, we could not deliver the range of services and supports we provide without their dedication.

We are also incredibly grateful to our committee members, all of whom volunteer their time and expertise to ensure the organisation operates with integrity and purpose. In addition, volunteers help deliver our Mental Health and Wellbeing programmes, Walking Group, Seniors Project, and many other initiatives that support our community.

Volunteering not only makes a meaningful difference to the lives of others, but it is also an enriching experience for those who give their time. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of the wonderful volunteers who have supported us over the years.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your time, commitment, and compassion. Your contribution matters, and your impact is felt every day.

Today, The Rambling Irish completed its last walk before the Winter Break. Walking from Bondi Junction down to Bondi Beach and then hugging the coast north up to Watsons Bay. A picture perfect day for it โ˜€๏ธ

The Rambling Irish will be back in the Spring and we look forward to many more adventures!

Weโ€™d love you to join us so keep an eye out for the details.

As always, thank you to our wonderful volunteers who facilitate this group.

LINK Conference | May 2026

The Irish Support Agency was proud to host the annual LINK conference in Sydney last week (21st-23rd May).

LINK brings together support organisations from across Australia - Irish Australian Support Association of Queensland , Irish Support Victoria , NT Irish Association Claddagh Association , as well as representatives from the Embassy of Ireland, Canberra including H.E. Ambassador Fiona Flood, and Consulates in Sydney and Melbourne.

The conference exists to exchange learnings, resources, and insight among organisations united by the same mission: supporting the Irish Australian community. It also provides a valuable opportunity to identify emerging trends and needs across services; ensuring that, collectively, the network stays responsive and informed.

This year's program featured a strong line-up of expert speakers covering topics central to the work of support organisations, including Governance, Trauma-Informed Care, and Ageing in Australia. The sessions were rich, thought-provoking, and left everyone with plenty to bring back to their work. A sincere thank you to each speaker who so generously gave their time and expertise.

Appreciation also goes to the Consulate of Ireland, Sydney for hosting a warm welcome reception on Thursday evening, and to Eva Millington of the Great Irish Famine Commemoration Committee for leading a fascinating guided tour of the Hyde Park Barracks on Saturday afternoon, a memorable and fitting addition to the program.

Finally, thank you to ISA staff Paula, Una, Mairead, and Connie for their work in bringing the event together, and to our dedicated volunteer committee, whose commitment and generosity of time are the backbone of everything we do.
