In practice, this means everyone who walks through our door, calls our line, or reaches out online is met with the same warm welcome – no matter their background, circumstances or how long they've called Australia home. We know the Irish Australian community is diverse, and we're committed to making sure every person within it feels seen, respected and like they truly belong.

SAVE THE DATE - Women for Women | Saturday 17th October 2026

A Women's mental health and wellbeing event which focuses on why women should, and need to prioritise their mental health and wellbeing.

We're bringing together leading practitioners and industry experts to talk about the things that really matter to women, in a space that feels safe, warm and honest.

Join us for a day of discovery, inspiring conversation, and gentle reflection — helping us tune in to what's really going on for us.

This year, with care and openness, we'll be exploring:
💚 Healthy relationships
💚 Understanding coercive control and the supports available
💚 Intergenerational shame, through a cultural lens
💚 Neurodivergence in adult women
💚 Childlessness — by choice, and not by choice

Today, Sunday 16th August, almost 50 men from different walks of life, gathered, Shoulder to Shoulder, to connect, talk, reflect and listen.

Thank you to all of our speakers and contributors, especially those who generously shared their personal stories. Your honesty and openness could be the very thing that reaches someone who’s struggling — offering hope and comfort to others on a similar path. Events like this highlight the power of peer support. Sometimes the most powerful support comes from someone who’s been there before, who understands not just in theory but through lived experience.

This event was the work of the ISA’s Mental Health and Wellbeing working group, we thank them for their efforts and it was a true honour to host this event, now in its 5th year.

Each week, we'll be sharing one value. This week: Collaboration.

💚 We work in partnership - within the ISA and across the community - to strengthen and increase our collective impact.

In practice, this means our staff and committee work hand in hand – our committee supports and empowers our staff every step of the way, while the confidentiality of every person we help is always protected. And beyond our own walls, we build strong relationships with community groups, services and organisations across Sydney, because we know the biggest impact comes when we work together.

Whether it's teaming up with a local service to connect someone with the right support, or joining forces with community partners to run an event or initiative, collaboration means more people get the help they need.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has partnered with and supported us over the years – our committee, our community partners, our volunteers and donors. 💙 We act with empathy, kindness and respect.

In practice, this means every person who comes to ISA for support is treated with dignity and kindness. Our outreach team, Mairead and Connie, understand how hard it can be to ask for help, so they make sure that every time someone reaches out, they are met with empathy and understanding.

If you're nervous about getting in touch, please know we are here to listen. We will hear your story and do what we can to support you. No one deserves to face a difficult time alone.

IRISH COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB - New members welcome ☘

Join the Irish Support Agency's community book club which meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6pm in the Gaelic Club, Surry Hills.

A book club is a lovely way to discover new books and to meet new people!
This month we are reading ‘‘The Women’’ by Kristin Hannah.
