A new home for culture — and a new work of art. ✨

As part of our move to Fitzroy, we’re proud to continue supporting contemporary artists and creative exchange in Australia. In this video, artist Nina Walton introduces the artwork she created especially for the Goethe-Institut Melbourne.

The piece pays tribute to Gunta Stölzl, the Bauhaus pioneer who became the movement’s first female master and helped redefine textile art. Inspired by Stölzl’s Wandbehang Nr. 247 (1926), the work also marks the 100th anniversary of the original textile design.

✨ A career-defining opportunity for Australia's next generation of visual arts professionals.

Friends of Goethe Australia are seeking an emerging arts professional to join the documenta16 team in Kassel, Germany, one of the world's most significant contemporary art exhibitions, curated by Naomi Beckwith (Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York).

The scholarship includes:
- A 4–6 week placement in 2027
- A$10,000 stipend
- Direct experience supporting the Live Arts program
- Free German language course through Goethe-Institut Australia
