We celebrate this important investment in maternity services, strengthening safe, respectful and woman‑centred care for families in the Clarence Valley, and strongly encourage the implementation of midwifery‑led models of care as part of this initiative.

Pregnant women and their families across the Clarence Valley will benefit from an upgraded purpose-built maternity unit following a $20 million funding boost from the Minns Labor Government.

As ICM is currently underway in Portugal what better time to remind you all if you haven't already to jump in and sign this petition. International Confederation of Midwives and the global midwifery community in calling for One Million More Midwives. đź’ś

Midwives provide essential care across pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, yet the world is currently short nearly one million midwives. This gap is leaving millions of women and babies without access to the care they need.

The 2026 theme is a global call to action. It highlights the urgent need for investment in midwifery education, workforce growth and support, so midwives can work to their full scope and deliver safe, respectful care.

This is not a future issue, it is happening now. Together, we can advocate for stronger health systems and better outcomes for women, babies and families worldwide.
