Just over two weeks before entries close for the 2026 Sam Lewis Peace Prize! 🕊️

A $5,400 prize pool is available. Entries close Friday, 11 September.
Established in 1983, the prize honours lifelong peace advocate Sam Lewis and invites NSW public education students to explore this year’s theme, ‘Sowing seeds of peace’, through creative works.

Since 1998, Australia’s only international prize for peace has brought inspiring and exemplary stories of courage and dedication to justice to the Australian stage, to schools and to policy makers.

From the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu and former President of Ireland Mary Robinson to Naomi Klein, Arundhati Roy, Judge Navi Pillay and our 2026 laureate Jennifer Robinson.

August 6, marks 81 years since the US dropped an atomic bomb on , killing tens of thousands in an instant. On August 9 another bomb was detonated on .

At a time when US military build up in our region is accelerating and the proliferation of nuclear weapons is spreading, the Australian government must act with courage and sign and ratify the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and urgently review the $380 billion AUKUS pact which undermines our sovereignty and puts an end to our international nuclear non-proliferation obligations.

We had a full house on Friday evening at the State Library of NSW as we awarded the Gold Medal for Human Rights to Dr Bob Brown in recognition of his lifelong commitment to environmental justice.

His keynote address was a powerful reminder of the importance of taking action in defiance of destructive environmental practices and ensuring the survival of the natural world.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event in celebration of one of Australia’s most renowned and inspiring climate defenders.
