We are excited to announce the speakers for the 2026 Sydney Peace Prize on 12 November at Sydney Town Hall.

The talented Benjamin Law 羅旭能 will host the evening, with Sydney’s Lord Mayor and our patron, Clover Moore, presenting the trophy to our 2026 Sydney Peace Prize Laureate, the incredible Jennifer Robinson. Jen Robinson

For the panel discussion, Jen will be joined by:
Vanessa Turnbull Roberts - proud Bundjalung Widubul Wiabul woman, lawyer, author and human rights advocate
Sarah Schwartz - Legal Director of the Democratic Freedoms team at the Human Rights Law Centre, where she works to defend protest rights and political expression.

This is a terrific initiative from Hazelhurst Arts Centre - DAUGHTERS OF RESISTANCE

Have you or someone in your family been part of movements for peace, resistance or justice?
Artist and researcher Alex Martinis Roe (VCA, University of Melbourne) is inviting Sutherland Shire locals to take part in Daughters of the Resistance, a research project exploring how histories of resistance, peace activism and women's liberation are carried forward through storytelling, kinship and memory.

Have you or someone in your family been part of movements for peace, resistance or justice?

Artist and researcher Alex Martinis Roe (VCA, University of Melbourne) is inviting Sutherland Shire locals to take part in Daughters of the Resistance, a research project exploring how histories of resistance, peace activism and women's liberation are carried forward through storytelling, kinship and memory.

Alex is especially keen to hear from the daughters, by birth or by close relationship, of women involved in resistance movements, anti-colonial struggles or peace and liberation activism.

Participation is a relaxed, recorded conversation (about an hour), and you'll have full opportunity to review your contribution before it's shared.

Join us as Australian Human Rights Lawyer, Jennifer Robinson, is awarded the 2026 Sydney Peace Prize for “for her commitment to international law and her dedication to upholding and promoting human rights including free speech, press freedom, and gender and climate justice.“

From the small town of Berry, where she attended public schools, she went on to study at the Australian National University, before attending the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Jen has fearlessly defended free speech and human rights in some of the most significant and high-profile legal cases worldwide.

Her groundbreaking work includes representing Julian Assange, representing Amber Heard in the UK, achieving political asylum for West Papuan leader Benny Wenda, successfully taking climate change to the world’s highest court and working with the International Federation of Journalists and family members of Palestinian journalists, including Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed by Israeli forces.

In the documentary SILENCED, Jen fights against the weaponization of defamation laws to silence survivors of gender-based violence.

On the International Day of Peace, the Sydney Peace Foundation recognises the courageous peacebuilders around the world, and all of those suffering injustice and oppression.

Today, like every day, we stand in solidarity with the people around the world living through war, conflict and genocide- in Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine, Myanmar, and beyond.

We must continue working towards a more peaceful world, where there is dignity, freedom and justice for all.

On 15 September the Red Lines package was launched at Parliament House in Canberra.

This is a suite of legislative reforms has been developed collaboratively by Australian experts and civil society organisations to ensure Australia’s trade, investment and defence relationships not only uphold international and domestic law:

• No funding genocide
• No arming war crimes
• No profiting from crimes against humanity
• No investing in illegal occupation
• No importing goods from illegal occupations

The Sydney Peace Foundation supports the Red Lines Package and thanks our MPs and Senators who know Australia must uphold our obligations under international law.
