The Big Brother Movement was founded in 1925 by Sir Richard Linton to facilitate migration of young men to Australia from the UK. Australia was in need of strong and willing young men seeking adventure and a new life away from home. The first group of more than 80 โ€œlittle brothersโ€ as they became known sailed from England on the Jervis Bay arriving in Australia on December 14th 1925... Big Brother Movement is still an active Charity as BBM Youth Support.

Adam Gilchrist describes his BBM scholarship year as "the most important year for me to become the person I am today."

For 100 years, BBM has been creating life-changing opportunities for young people. From the Little Brothers who helped build Australia's regional communities, industries and agricultural workforce, to today's Global Footprints Scholars exploring new ideas and sustainable practices around the world, the impact of these opportunities reaches far beyond the individual.

Today, BBM invests in future leaders across agriculture, horticulture and trades, helping them bring new skills, perspectives and solutions back to Australia to strengthen industries, support communities and contribute to a more sustainable future.

This EOFY, help ensure that legacy continues for generations to come.

๐Ÿค Supporting young people, strengthening industries and building partnerships that matter.

Last week, BBM CEO Suellen McCaffrey attended the National Apprentice Employment Network (NAEN) Conference in Uluru, joining leaders from across Australia committed to creating opportunities through apprenticeships, training and employment pathways.

As a proud conference partner, BBM was pleased to contribute to conversations focused on workforce development, skills, industry collaboration and the future of young people across Australia.

Strong partnerships are essential to creating meaningful opportunities. Events such as NAEN provide an important forum for sharing ideas, strengthening connections and exploring how organisations can work together to support the next generation of leaders, tradespeople and industry professionals.

What happens when leaders from across Australia come together in the heart of the country, united by a shared purpose?

This week, our CEO Suellen is attending the NAEN Conference in Uluru, with BBM proud to be an official partner of this important national gathering for the vocational education and training sector.

Itโ€™s a chance to connect with those shaping the future of apprenticeships and traineeships, and to keep building the relationships that make real impact possible.

Aligned with this yearโ€™s theme, Skills in the Heart, the conference reflects something we care deeply about - supporting young people to grow, lead and step into their future with confidence.

Weโ€™re proud to be part of a network committed to collaboration, connection and creating opportunities for the next generation.

A legacy that continues to grow ๐ŸŒฑ

At our recent Little Brothersโ€™ Reunion in Adelaide, we were joined by Brayden Fitzpatrick, a 2019 Horticulture Scholar, who returned to share his story with the BBM community.

Brayden spoke about his scholarship experience in the US and how it shaped his work today, running Fitzy's Natives & Horticultural Services and advocating for native, waterwise gardens that support Australiaโ€™s unique landscapes and wildlife.

In a thoughtful moment that captured the spirit of BBM, Brayden gifted each Little Brother a native plant from his nursery, a simple but powerful way to connect past and present.

These moments reflect what the movement has always been about. Opportunity, connection and giving back.

Thank you to Mayfield Garden for their long-term sponsorship of the Global Footprints Scholarships program.

This week we welcomed a team from 180 Degrees Consulting to BBM, led by Annabelle Lai, as they begin a new project focused on how we measure and communicate our impact.

Building on their 2024 Social Return on Investment work with us, this project will explore how we measure our contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and how we demonstrate our role in developing practical, capable and impactful future leaders.

The impact of this work matters. It will help us better understand and evidence the outcomes of our scholarships, strengthen how we communicate value to partners and supporters, and ensure we continue to invest in programs that create meaningful, lasting change.

It is also a reflection of our belief in young people. By working alongside students applying their skills to real-world challenges, we are not only measuring impact, we are contributing to it.

We look forward to what this collaboration will uncover.

At Tocal Collegeโ€™s recent graduation, we celebrated graduating students - a number of whom were supported by BBM as they completed their studies and stepped into the next stage of their journey.

This partnership with Tocal College - RTO 91166 reflects a shared commitment to practical, industry-led learning and to preparing people for the realities of work on the ground. It connects education with real pathways into the sectors that need skilled, thoughtful and capable people.

This is at the heart of what we do.

As one speaker shared on the day, people are everything. Relationships matter. Values matter. And learning does not stop at graduation.

These graduands are entering their industries at a critical time, helping connect science, industry and practice on the ground.

We are proud to support them and to work alongside Tocal College in building the next generation.

Congratulations to this yearโ€™s graduates.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the reunion on Monday the 23rd.

We are honoured that so many of you were able to make it, travelling from near and far to be there. It was a great morning/ afternoon, lovely to see so many familiar faces, catch up properly, share stories, and spend time socialising together.

Thank you for the conversations, the memories shared, and for making the effort to reconnect. The sense of connection in the room was clear, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the time together.

Thank you again to everyone who attended and made it such an enjoyable get-together.
