Honoured to have been invited as a speaker at this year’s 4th Australia and New Zealand Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference, presented by STARTTS and FASSTT.

I spoke about Crossing the Pacific: Chilean Voices in Australia and explored the role of oral history and visual storytelling in preserving memory, identity and human connection.

It was incredibly inspiring to share space with practitioners, researchers, artists and community leaders from across Australia and New Zealand.

Experiences like this remind me why storytelling matters - not only as a way of preserving the past but as a way of creating understanding, dignity and belonging.

On Anzac Day, we remember not just history, but people.

This is a short moment from Danny Jeffery’s story — one of many voices who have served, each carrying experiences that shape who we are today.

Harmony Week may have passed, but the stories and traditions we share stay with us.

In this video, two members of our South American community share a traditional recipe—something that carries memory, culture, and connection across generations.

Because celebrating culture isn’t just for one week… it’s something we carry with us every day.

On Saturday we screened Crossing the Pacific – Director’s Cut in Canberra to a beautiful and engaged audience.

Thank you to everyone who came, shared the evening with us, and stayed for the conversation afterwards. These stories of Chilean exile, solidarity, and belonging clearly continue to resonate deeply.

I’m especially grateful to the participants who entrusted me with their memories, and to the community and partners who helped bring this screening together.

Every time this film is shown, the stories find new listeners — and that is exactly why they matter.

More conversations to come.

Some stories are difficult.
Some are essential.

Recently, we’ve been recording testimonies related to the Bondi shooting for the Sydney Jewish Museum.

Documenting lived experience — especially in moments of collective trauma — requires sensitivity and trust.

Grateful to contribute to this important archival work.

It was a real pleasure to film David Wheen in Canberra.
As a diplomat visiting Chile during Salvador Allende’s election campaign, David offers a rare perspective on the hope, warmth, and collective spirit he witnessed at the time — a powerful reminder of how deeply those moments are remembered.

📽️ Great news: Crossing the Pacific will be screening at the Kambri Theatre, Australian National University

Our oral history project continues—this time in Canada 🇨🇦

I’m currently recording lived experiences of people whose journeys crossed oceans and borders, capturing memories of displacement, resilience, community, and belonging.

Every conversation reminds me why oral histories matter: they preserve voices that might otherwise be lost and help us understand the human stories behind history.

Grateful to Ricardo Recabarren Gonzalez for the trust, generosity, and openness in sharing his story.
