Today, we at Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) join credit unions around the world in commemorating the birth anniversary of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, the pioneer whose vision gave life to the cooperative credit movement.
In a time when the world is shaken by conflict, uncertainty, displacement, and economic strainβespecially across the Middle East and beyondβRaiffeisenβs timeless values speak to us with even greater urgency.
He believed that:
-People are stronger together than alone.
-Credit is a tool for dignity, not exploitation.
-Self-help, mutual help, and solidarity are the foundations of resilient communities.
-The poor are not a burden to society, but partners in building it.
Today, as families face rising costs, disrupted livelihoods, and uncertain futures, credit unions stand as living proof that Raiffeisenβs philosophy is not historyβit is a global response to crisis.
Across continents, credit unions continue to:
π€ Provide safe financial access where banks withdraw
π± Support members in rebuilding livelihoods
ποΈ Promote peace through cooperation and inclusion
πͺ Strengthen communities through trust and shared responsibility
Raiffeisen taught us that the real wealth of a nation is not in its markets, but in its people caring for one another.
On his birthday, we reaffirm our commitment to carry forward his legacyβnot only in stable times, but most especially in difficult ones.
The cooperative spirit is the quiet force that keeps hope alive.
