AMF-Cufa

AMF-Cufa AMF-Cufa has been alleviating poverty in communities across the Asia Pacific for over 40 years.

AMF-Cufa is committed to ending intergenerational poverty through programs focused on financial literacy and inclusion and micro-enterprise development in the Asia Pacific region. Cufa’s work is focused on helping people lift themselves out of poverty through earning, saving and investing related projects. We work with and support the poorest of the poor to participate in their local economies thr

ough the development of micro-enterprises, through financial literacy education and the development of village savings banks so that they have somewhere to save their money safely and securely. We help village entrepreneurs to develop micro-businesses, providing employment opportunities and retaining income within the village. Cufa also teaches children from a young age how to save money so they are better equipped to avoid debt when they become adults. We also provide the necessary training and resources to foster ethical and inclusive financial services, so that everybody in the village has the opportunity to save regardless of gender, ethnicity, mobility or relative wealth. This approach increases the capacity of locals to lift themselves out of poverty, creating infinite value to millions of people and for many future generations.

From Stigma to Strength

Australia is supporting inclusive economic opportunities for women with disabilities in Cambodia.

In Kampong Cham Province, NGO CUFA’s Australian Social Program for Inclusive Rural Enterprise (ASPIRE) is helping communities build sustainable livelihoods through cooperative social enterprises. The project focuses on women and people living with disabilities, addressing stigma and economic exclusion while helping participants develop skills, earn income and play a more active role in community life.

Through ASPIRE, women like Phally have gained entrepreneurial and financial skills, increased their independence, and built confidence to engage beyond their households, while inspiring others living with disabilities.

With support through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP), Australia is helping promote dignity, inclusion, and stronger livelihoods for some of Cambodia’s most marginalised people.

Today, we at Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) join credit unions around the world in commemorating the birth anniversary of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, the pioneer whose vision gave life to the cooperative credit movement.

In a time when the world is shaken by conflict, uncertainty, displacement, and economic strainβ€”especially across the Middle East and beyondβ€”Raiffeisen’s timeless values speak to us with even greater urgency.

He believed that:

-People are stronger together than alone.
-Credit is a tool for dignity, not exploitation.
-Self-help, mutual help, and solidarity are the foundations of resilient communities.
-The poor are not a burden to society, but partners in building it.

Today, as families face rising costs, disrupted livelihoods, and uncertain futures, credit unions stand as living proof that Raiffeisen’s philosophy is not historyβ€”it is a global response to crisis.

Across continents, credit unions continue to:
🀝 Provide safe financial access where banks withdraw
🌱 Support members in rebuilding livelihoods
πŸ•ŠοΈ Promote peace through cooperation and inclusion
πŸ’ͺ Strengthen communities through trust and shared responsibility

Raiffeisen taught us that the real wealth of a nation is not in its markets, but in its people caring for one another.

On his birthday, we reaffirm our commitment to carry forward his legacyβ€”not only in stable times, but most especially in difficult ones.

The cooperative spirit is the quiet force that keeps hope alive.

Our third and final week of training and celebrating young women in Port Moresby!

The final workshop for our Gender Pathways Unlimited project saw 12 young school leavers upskill in livelihoods, life skills, financial literacy, as they left prepared to explore their career pathways.

We are grateful to The International Alliance for Women, and the PNG Women's Business Resource Centre for their contributions which made these workshops possible.

In the next few weeks, three of the star participants will be selected to join internships at local workplaces to continue building their skills and experience. Keep an eye out!
