Abstract submission from The ISVEE17 organising committee
Title: Sparkling Antipodean glamour: from the desert to the sea
Introduction: Gala dinners have been the mainstay of the ISVEE social calendar since the commencement of ISVEE conferences (ISVEE, 1973). Historically, gala dinners have made use of the innate beauty of their environments (Out of Africa estate, Nairob, 1994; The Crown Palace, Chang Mai, 2018) and of unique experiences (Zoo experience in Durban, 2009; Tunnels of Maastricht, 2012). Previous qualitative work has identified extreme happiness associated with such events in delegates and suggests that future events should emulate and expand on prior experience. Our objectives are to combine both beauty and uniqueness to result in an event that will remain in delegate memories for many years.
Materials and Methods:
Location: The ISVEE17 gala dinner will be held at The Watersedge at Campbell's Stores (https://www.therocks.com/eat-drink/watersedge #) on Wednesday 13th November, commencing at 7pm.
Design: The theme of this dinner is "Sparking Antipodean glamour: from the desert to the sea".
Delegates are welcome to dress to the theme if they wish (perhaps adding some glitter and sparkle to their outfit or dressing in colours that represent the Australian / New Zealand landscape - fully sequinned outfits are encouraged!). The method of arrival to the event could be on foot or by taxi (Phone 132227) or train (https://transportnsw.info/routes/train).
Outcomes: Dancing is strongly encouraged - examples can be found by searching 'dances from around the world' on YouTube (it's worth it!) Dances From Around The World - YouTube. Liberal application food and beverage is expected.
Results: Results are yet to be finalised. However, a pilot project was performed for proof of concept which yielded excellent results (images provided on request).
Discussion: The organisers of ISVEE17 are confident that this event will be one that goes down in history as 'the best IVSEE gala dinner ever'. While further studies are required to support this outcome, oral and photographic evidence of the results should be posted on social media ( ) to inform reflection and development of future ISVEE events.
