Kamal Adwan Hospital (the last major health facility in northern Gaza) came under direct assault by military activity, reportedly by Israeli forces. Parts of the hospital were burnt and severely damaged, forcing patients and staff to evacuate.

Among those unaccounted for is Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, MedGlobal’s lead physician in Gaza and Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed deep concern about the impact on healthcare in the region, noting that 75,000 people in northern Gaza are now left without access to functioning medical facilities. Since October, WHO has documented multiple attacks on health facilities in the area, further undermining the capacity to provide essential medical services.

Hospitals, healthcare workers, and patients are protected under International Humanitarian Law, which prohibits attacks on medical facilities and personnel. We reiterate our call to all warring parties, international leaders, human rights organizations and the global community to take immediate action to demand strict adherence to international laws.

MedGlobal, one of GMF Australia’s long-term partners, has worked closely with Dr. Abu Safiya, who has devoted his life to protecting the health and lives of children in Gaza. His contributions underscore the critical role of healthcare workers in crisis settings.
