Anglican Deaconess Ministries

Anglican Deaconess Ministries Women for the Lord. Since 1891. We do so for the Church, and the common good.

We inspire and empower Christian women to bring the love of Jesus to a hurting world through theological education, compassionate ministries, community and public gospel witness. For 130 years, our work has responded to context and need, but we have had an enduring underlying mission: to raise up women with theological formation for practical and public engagement.

Where do we go for wisdom in a digital age?

AI is no longer something “out there” in the future — most of us are using it in some way already, and it has the ability to shape more than just how we write, learn, work, or create. It's shaping us.

For Christians, this raises important questions about what it means to live wisely and responsibly as followers of Jesus, and how AI might fit into that picture.

Come along to our next Coffee, Cake & Theology where Rev. Dr Becki Philip and Naomi Escott will help us think theologically about artificial intelligence and Christian ethics.

Missed the Spotlight Session on Trauma? You can still catch it.

The webinar recording is now available, so if you weren't able to join us live, you haven't missed out. Rev. Belinda Burn's session on trauma-informed care is ready to watch whenever suits you.

It's also a great resource to bring to your church or Bible study group. You can purchase the recording to watch together, making it easy to open up a group conversation about how to better support those who've experienced trauma.

Passionate about mental health and the church?

We have a role for someone with significant ministry experience who cares deeply about seeing people in churches supported well in the midst of mental health challenges.

As the Ministry Resources Officer for our Mental Health Institute, you’ll help shape resources that equip churches with wisdom, compassion, and practical tools. Working closely with the Head of the Institute, you’ll bring ideas to life through writing, research, coordination, and collaboration—helping ensure the work of the Institute is both theologically grounded and practically useful.

Applications will close on 31 August.

Following on from Monday's Spotlight Session, we've put together a free fact sheet on Trauma to help you keep building your understanding of trauma-informed care.

It's a practical resource covering what trauma is, how it shows up, how we can understand it theologically, and how you can better support the people in your life who are living with it.

Whether you're a pastor, a small group leader, or simply someone who wants to care well, this is a great place to start.

Our Spotlight Session on Trauma is happening tonight, and we would love you to be there.

This is a rare evening where we will hear from someone who is both an expert and has their own lived experience of trauma they will be sharing with us. We hope it will help you see more clearly what people around you are carrying and help you respond with well, confidently caring for them in Jesus’ name.

Whether you work in pastoral care, serve in women's ministry, or simply want to better love those who have experienced trauma, this is an important evening worth attending.
