Thank you to Justin Clancy MP, Member for Albury, for highlighting the impact of Life Ed NSW and the importance of ensuring children in regional communities can access quality health and wellbeing education.
We’re grateful for Justin’s support in recognising the importance of this education for children and families in the Albury region and beyond.
Healthy Harold has been a familiar face in Australian classrooms for generations! 🦒
For decades, Life Ed and Healthy Harold have helped children develop the knowledge and confidence to make healthy choices — building the foundations for health and wellbeing throughout life.
It was valuable to catch up with Life Ed NSW & ACT and hear about their work, including the challenges they face in continuing to reach schools across our region.
The impact is significant. Across NSW and the ACT, Life Ed has reached more than 257,000 children and young people, including over 118,000 students in regional and remote communities.
But there’s a concern.
While Life Ed continues to receive support from NSW Health, the loss of NSW Education funding is making it harder to deliver these important programs in classrooms.
Health literacy is a lifelong investment. Helping children understand healthy choices, relationships and wellbeing from an early age can make a difference for years to come.
At a time when teachers are already managing considerable demands, we should be supporting specialist organisations like Life Ed to deliver age-appropriate health and wellbeing education — not placing additional pressure on teachers to fill the gap.
