Out for Australia is an organisation that seeks to support and mentor aspiring LGBTQIA+ professionals as they navigate their way through the early stages of their career. We aim to bring the community together, to offer a supportive and nurturing environment for which people can network, build relationships and assist each other in their professional journeys. Our mission is to provide visible role models, mentors, and other support to aspiring LGBTQIA+ professionals and to strengthen the sense of community among professionals and students. Last Wednesday evening, OFA brought together participants, supporters, workplace leaders and members of the community for an evening of networking and discussion, hosted by the incredible team at LION.

Through our panel discussion moderated by OFA Co-Patron Anton Enus, we got stuck into all things AI and early-career pathways: exploring how AI has begun reshaping the career landscape, and why mentorship must sit at the heart of early-career development.

We’re so grateful to Dr Aditya Joshi, Sam Turner, Nathan Phillis and Oliver Ray for sharing their perspectives and insights. Thank you to Jane Hill, the entire LION pride network team, Ed Chan, Gabriel Martello, Ken Terado, Lucas Peers-Catt and Rachel Mead for making the event a success!

We’re excited to launch a program of events across the country in 2027. Since 2013, OFA events have been spaces to find community and develop networks, discuss issues that matter to LGBTQIA+ early-career professionals, and connect emerging and established professionals through mentorship.

We're so excited to welcome you all to our Spring Mixer this coming Wednesday, 16 September.

Ahead of the panel discussion, you’ll have the chance to hear from our new CEO, Eva Granger!

Grounded in her own lived experience, Eva is a passionate advocate for systemic inclusion, working to ensure that LGBTQIA+ young professionals are welcome everywhere: from the boardroom to the locker room.

As CEO, Eva is the steward of OFA’s future, responsible for ensuring its long term strength, stability and sustainability. She leads a nationwide team of staff and volunteers, ensuring they’re organised, inspired and supported to deliver incredible impact for LGBTQIA+ young people. Behind the scenes, she works closely with the wider team to modernise our tools and systems, while taking a leading role in representing OFA publicly, at events, in the community and in dialogue with our key stakeholders and supporters.

Outside of her work, Eva is a committed (or "tragic") Geelong Cats AFLW fan who survives the long off-season by following Premiership Women's Rugby in the UK in support of Harlequins. Holding citizenships across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, she is currently preparing for her brain to throw a complete "404 Error" when the three nations inevitably collide at the 2027 Women's Rugby World Cup.

We’re excited to introduce our fourth panellist for OFA’s Spring Mixer: Sam Turner.

Sam is an influential leader in people, culture and organisational transformation, with 25+ years' experience across financial services, technology, legal, arts and community sectors.

Sam recently concluded her role as Chief People Officer at Allens, one of Australia's leading law firms, and is now building a consulting practice focused on human-centred AI transformation - bringing together her deep experience in people, culture and inclusion with the defining challenge facing organisations today. She is also writing a book on the topic.

Sam is Chair of Rainbow Giving Australia, Australia's first national LGBTQIA+ community foundation with DGR-1 status. She is a Churchill Fellow, a winner of the 2016 Women of Influence Awards, and was named one of Australia's Outstanding 50 LGBTIQ+ Leaders in the Deloitte/Google 2018 list. Sam holds an Honours degree in Commerce and a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology.

We’re thrilled to introduce the third panellist for OFA’s Spring Mixer: Nathan Phillis!

Nathan is a commercial marketer turned media planner at Atomic 212°, an MFA-recognised professional, and advocate for authentic representation.

His experience covers corporate, start-up, & charitable endeavours – his current work managing campaign delivery and performance across S&P 500 & ASX 200 clients.

Beyond the office, his work spans the q***r sector from contributions to community publications such as the University of Sydney’s 1978, through to fundraising & advocacy initiatives via Publicis Groupe's Égalité network. He’s also an alumnus of the Out For Australia Career Academy.
