Amongst Christians, Revelation is sometimes ignored and sometimes obsessed about. Rarely is the book a positive influence on Christian life and practice. But the book of Revelation was given by God to form disciples for worship and witness. If it does not transform our discipleship, we haven’t yet heard its message.

This unit will delve into the interpretation of Revelation with a view to its application in this contemporary cultural moment. We will explore the genre of apocalypse and how to understand its power for spiritual formation. We will learn together how God was speaking to the first century church, and how the same vision might be applied in our secular age.

“I’m desperate to witness to the lost overseas, however those within my town I’ve become less burdened for. The Bridge has caused me to ask myself, if I don’t make the effort to witness to those around me now, why will I when overseas? Join us for our Semester 2 Tuesday evening unit – Early New Testament Church

The church is far from perfect, whether we have in mind the early church or the church today. How did the church get started? What issues did those first Christians struggle with? How did God use his people to spread the light of the gospel from its beginnings in Judea and Jerusalem to the very heart of the Roman Empire?

In this unit, we study the Acts of the Apostles, or (to put it differently) the Acts of the risen Lord Jesus. We trace how God was at work through his imperfect but faithful people. We will also look at some of the letters of the New Testament in the setting that Acts provides and see how they give us a window into the issues faced by the early church – and how the apostles dealt with these issues on the basis of the truth of the gospel of Christ. It is an interesting glimpse into the church then, and it provides guidance as the Lord Jesus continues to work through his imperfect people today.
