Award Night 2025 | A Night to Remember

One of the end-of-year moments was our Award Night 2025, proudly organised and celebrated on Saturday, 13th December 2025 by Sadat Welfare & Sports Association.

This special night marked the successful completion of our Free Kids Soccer and Cricket Academy, and it was truly a great success. We celebrated not only achievements, but also growth, confidence, friendship, and community, together with our amazing kids and their proud parents.

The room was filled with positive energy, with families from different cultural and religious backgrounds. We had people from Afghan communities of different ethnic groups, as well as Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi, Lebanese and other backgrounds. Seeing everyone together in one place felt special and reminded us of the strength of our diverse community.

This was an important event where we celebrated the success of these kids in both soccer and cricket. They loved every part of it. Events like this give children encouragement, boost their confidence, and motivate both kids and parents.

We also presented awards to the winning teams of both the Multicultural Cup and the Refugee Cup, recognising their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

As December is always a very busy time of the year, many familiar faces were missed due to prior commitments. Even so, we were proud to have a full house with 150 guests in attendance, showing the strong support from our community.

We missed a few politicians, friends, and community members who already had plans. We especially missed Hon. Jason Clare, who was present at our opening ceremony of the Sadat Academy of Sports along with Lynda Voltz MP, as well as Julia Finn MP and other valued supporters.

We sincerely thank Hon. Jason Clare for sending his best wishes and for recognising the work of Sadat Welfare & Sports Association and our contribution to the community.

On the night, we presented a Shield to Syed Murtaza in recognition of his dedication and active volunteer service for the Sadat Community.

A special and sincere thank you to Ahmed Ouf Cumberland City Councillor, who presented all the awards on the night by himself. Although we have only known Ahmad for a short time, he has consistently shown up for the community without making excuses. It was a long evening, yet his energy never dropped. Since taking his oath, he has been one of the most active councillors in Cumberland City Council. We truly appreciate him joining us at short notice and for his genuine commitment to the community. As a sports association, we will always support councillors who give their 100 percent to the community, and at present, Ahmad stands out as one of the most active councillors in Cumberland.

As the evening came to an end, all the kids were happy, with smiles on their faces. Before leaving, many kids and parents asked us when we would start the academy again, sharing how much improvement they have seen in their children, not only in sports skills but also in manners, confidence, friendships, and the sense of family they have built.

A big thank you to Senator Fatima Payman, joining all the way from Western Australia, for sending a surprise video message filled with encouragement and best wishes for our kids and their parents. It truly made the night even more special.

We may be a little late in sharing this post, as the past few months have been very hectic for Sadat Welfare & Sports Association, with volunteers away and ongoing sporting activities even during the Christmas holidays, including hosting guests from interstate who came to take part in our cricket events.

We hope to continue organising events like this in the future, given the opportunity and support.

This project was proudly supported with funding from the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.

During these Christmas holidays, just like the Refugee Cricket Cup, we are also organising a Refugee Soccer outdoor competition to bring people together in a positive way.
This time, to make it more exciting and inclusive, it will be a 6-a-side outdoor soccer tournament, played from 25th to 27th December.

The Refugee Soccer Cup is completely FREE and open to everyone. It is not limited to one nation, culture, religion, or background. Teams and players from all cultures, religions, races, and nationalities are warmly welcome.

At Sadat Welfare and Sports, our mission has always been to promote peace, unity, and harmony, especially in challenging times like the ones we are facing now. Over the past 10 years, we have seen how powerful sport can be — people from different religions and backgrounds playing on the same team, building friendships, respect, and understanding beyond differences.

Sports bring people together. Sports create friendships. Sports break barriers.
That’s why we are dedicating this soccer competition to promoting peace and harmony, because we truly believe this is possible through community sports.

Condemning violence is important — but what matters even more is taking action, doing our part to build peace, stability, and unity in our communities. This is our small contribution toward a better, safer, and more united society.

Let’s come together, play together, and stand together for peace.
Because sports are a powerful tool to unite communities, cultures, and religions.

Today is a really sad day for Australia.

What happened at Bondi is hard to process. People were just out enjoying their day, and in a moment everything changed.

In the middle of that chaos, one person stepped forward and risked his own life to stop a gunman and protect others. He didn’t know what would happen, but he acted anyway. That kind of bravery is something you can’t teach — and it saved lives. He is a true hero.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected. No one should ever experience something like this. Violence and hatred have no place in Australia, and we must condemn it in all forms.

This is not a good day in our history, but it doesn’t define who we are. Even in the darkest moments, the real Aussie spirit shows — people looking out for each other, standing together, choosing humanity over fear.

Australia is strong. We will get through this together.

As 2025 comes to an end, we’re excited to share another update from Sadat Welfare & Sports Association!

We’re proud to announce the 7th Edition of the Refugee Cricket Cup, which will be held during the Christmas holidays — 24th to 27th December. This version of the Refugee Cup will feature proper T20 cricket, and once again we’ve received strong interest from interstate teams, and we are happy to welcome them.

It’s already been a full and busy year for us. We’ve just wrapped up our Kids Academy for 2025, and we were planning to organise a small tape-ball tournament on the same dates. But with the amount of interest coming from interstate teams, we didn’t want to disappoint them, especially after the trust we’ve built through previous events.

Because the days are limited, team spots will also be limited. As always, we won’t be charging heavy fees. Our events have never been about big prize money — they’re about passion, discipline, good manners, and a genuine love for cricket. Local teams who carry these values will be given priority.

Even though it means we won’t get much rest until the end of the year, we’re happy to put in the effort for the love of sport and for our community.

With the funding and support from the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs, all event costs will be fully covered — including ground hire, sublimated jerseys, cricket balls, umpires, refreshments, trophies, and awards such as Man of the Match and Man of the Tournament.
Interstate teams have asked for prize money, so this will be included and supported through a small registration fee. If the opportunity comes up, we may also approach sponsors to help cover that amount and hopefully make the event completely free like before.

We will also be organising small outdoor soccer games under the lights on the same dates. More details will be announced soon, but soccer teams can already reach out to register — and this event will be completely free.

What an unforgettable day at the Sadat Academy of Sports! ⚽🏏
Our final day of the kids’ program, organised by the Sadat Welfare and Sports Association, turned into something truly special. We surprised the kids by transforming the last training session into a mini soccer tournament — four teams, big smiles, and incredible excitement. The final match was intense and full of passion, only decided after 15 penalties! The emotions were real and the memories will surely stay with them for a long time.

This free 22-week sports academy has been a huge journey for all of us. We made sure the kids had experienced, dedicated coaches every single week. Our President, Agha Jafari, attended consistently, promoting harmony, unity and teamwork among the kids — and it truly showed in how beautifully they bonded.

We expected around 30 kids… but ended up with 62 participants from different cultural backgrounds, including many newcomers. Watching them grow was the best part — from kids who didn’t know how to hold a bat, to confident little athletes giving their all. Their energy, discipline and excitement were incredible. Some were even counting the days until the next session!

A big thank you to the parents for your support, for bringing your kids each week, and for believing in this program.

On Sunday, 16th November, we wrapped things up by awarding trophies and medals to the winners and runner-up teams. And we’re excited to share that we’ll be hosting a special Awards Night soon to celebrate every child who participated.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the field, our cricket boys were training hard and still managed to cheer on their soccer mates — a beautiful example of the unity we aim to build. The academy proudly develops both soccer and cricket, helping kids learn, grow and fall in love with sport.

At Sadat Welfare and Sports, our goal isn’t just photos and trainings — it’s to guide each child to develop real skills, confidence, teamwork and a love for sport. Our next step is to help them connect with local clubs and become active, positive members of the community.

This program was proudly supported by the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
