Rehabilitation Engineering UNSW

A student group co-designing & prototyping assistive technology alongside clients with a disability. Ultimately, our mission is to help people.

Rehabilitation Engineering (RehabENG) Society runs projects where students co-design and prototype assistive technology alongside a real partner with a disability or an expert in the medical field. Our aim is to nurture a passion for assistive technology in our student group, while building strong relationships with our partners. - Rowing prosthesis with the Balmain Rowing Club
- Adjustable mouth-stick for people with quadriplegia
- Partial hand prosthesis with Sydney Children's Hospital
- Low-cost surgical lamp
- Wheelchair retrofit for remote areas
- Self-harm prevention razor

Last week, RehabENG’s 2025 President, Khushi Gupta and 2026 President, Iris Landy had the opportunity to present at the Inclusive Design in Personalised Medical Devices Forum. The event brought together industry, academia, students and non-profit organisations to explore inclusive design in medical device development.

RehabENG not only got to present to the attendees, but were also able to set up a stall. With this, we were able to go further in depth about our projects and workshops, where we were fortunate to recieve some valuable insight, information and recommendations from some of the amazing attendees.

🎉 What a night! Our Annual Project Showcase ft. AGM was a huge success 💙

🚀 Our project teams amazed us with their progress — from wrapping up the Upper Limb Orthosis, to finalising the Communication Device, and moving towards the first Braille Press prototype. Big things are coming! Stay tuned for more projects in 2026 👀

🙌 We also closed the night with our AGM, reflecting on the year that’s been and welcoming in the 2026 Exec Team.

Thank you to our members – we couldn’t have run these events, projects, or even sold merch without you! It has been a big year, and we’ve grown so much together. Now, it’s time for the 2025 team to take a well-deserved break. We’ll be cheering on the next execs as they take the reins and continue the RehabENG legacy of changing lives through assistive tech 💙
