Celebrating a truly special milestone for the graduates of the Emerge Foundation 🎓

These graduations represent so much more than academic achievement. They’re the result of years of determination, support, and opportunity—often from students who have travelled far from remote villages to pursue their education.

Through the foundation’s work, these graduates are now stepping into roles as teachers, healthcare workers, and leaders—helping shape a brighter future for their communities in Timor-Leste.

A proud moment for every graduate, their families, and everyone who has supported their journey.

Honouring the Balibo Five.

Today, we pause to remember the Balibo Five — Greg Shackleton, Tony Stewart, Gary Cunningham, Malcolm Rennie and Brian Peters — the five journalists who tragically lost their lives in 1975 while reporting in East Timor.

Their bravery and commitment to uncovering the truth continue to inspire generations. Their story is deeply intertwined with the history of Timor-Leste, a place that has shown extraordinary resilience in the face of hardship.

At Emerge Foundation, our work in Timor-Leste is driven by the same spirit of truth, hope, and service. Through education, healthcare, and community development programs, we aim to support the people of Timor-Leste in building a brighter future — one that honours the past while empowering the next generation.

We remember. We honour. We continue the work.

🏉 RUGBY ROYALTY LUNCH – THURSDAY 31 JULY 🏉
These beautiful pictures capture the smiles and sense of connection shared by our guests and speakers at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, who came together for the Emerge Foundation’s Rugby Lunch — an afternoon that brought together some of rugby’s finest in support of education initiatives in East Timor.

Among the special guests were British & Irish Lions legend Jamie Roberts, former Wallabies James Horwill, Greg Martin, and Stephen Moore, with Greg Clarke leading the charge as MC.

Scottish comedian Sam McCool brought plenty of laughs, while Michael and Violetta delivered a stunning musical performance. The presence of former Prime Minister John Howard added an extra layer of meaning to an already memorable day.

A brilliant event for a truly worthy cause.
