This morning, Rising Tide Gadigal (Sydney) hub came to the Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure offices in Parramatta to tell to SAY NO TO HVO! Inside this office, Minister for Planning Paul Scully is currently reviewing an extension proposal for the Hunter Valley Operations coal mine, owned by Yancoal and Glencore.
If approved, this would be the largest mine in NSW’s history, with lifetime emissions of 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2, equivalent to 8 times the annual emissions of the entire state of NSW. The HVO extension proposal will leave the coal workers high and dry without a plan for industry transition, and endangers the health and safety of us all.
