Did you know that you can stay at Foulis Castle in the Airbnb cottages and rooms in the castle? There are many accommodations available if you would like to stay. Clan Munro members Tanya and John Carlyle, along with their families, recently stayed overnight at the castle in a self-catered cottage. Find out more here about accommodation at the castle https://clanmunroassociation.org.au/clan-history/foulis-castle/

Tanya said, 'It also gave us a chance to enjoy the Scottish scenery and see how the farm at Foulis works. And seeing the gum trees and the Hills Hoist clothesline in the castle grounds not only gave us a chuckle but also reminded us that our clan has not forgotten their Australian Munro cousins!' This is the final instalment in the series from Tanya and John and their Scottish Clan Munro adventures. We hope you have enjoyed following along.

Some more pictures of the inside of Foulis Castle, shared with us by Tanya Carlyle, who recently visited Scotland. Some areas of the castle are set up as a museum, showing what life was like in the past. There is also a Clan Munro room that features information about the clan and information about the Clan Munro DNA Project. All male Munros who descend from males are encouraged to join the Y-DNA project. Find out more here: https://clanmunroassociation.org.au/genealogy/

Did you know that you can book a tour of the inside of Foulis Castle, the Clan Munro ancestral home in Scotland? Clan Munro members John and Tanya Carlyle toured the castle, hosted by Ohma and Finnian (the clan chief's son and daughter-in-law). There is a cost, but all the funds go towards the upkeep of the castle. Tanya said, 'There were some fascinating historical artefacts from the old Kiltearn Parish Church and some amazing portraits. The underground area, which was the original castle, was also interesting and a bit spooky!'

More from our intrepid travellers and Clan Munro members, Tanya and John, who recently returned from Scotland. John said: 'No trip to Scotland is complete without a visit to our ancestral castle, Foulis. I felt connected to my roots like never before. Even if you just walk or drive around the castle, it's still worth a visit!'

Another addition from Clan Munro members, Tanya and John, who visited Scotland recently with their families. Last time, Tanya gave us the lowdown about how to get inside the Clan Munro Museum at the Storehouse of Foulis, located just outside of Evanton in the Highlands of Scotland. Tanya is also sharing some pictures of the cafe at the Storehouse. 'The food is great, and we picked up some great jam, cheese and wine at the deli. There is also a fantastic picnic area just outside with great views of Cromarty Firth. My favourite was the giant sundial, with the Clan Munro motto and eagle emblem inscribed on it.'

More from our Clan Munro members, Tanya and John Carlyle, who recently visited Scotland and some key Munro sites. Not far from Evanton is the Storehouse of Foulis, which features a Clan Munro museum. Here's a tip from Tanya: 'Normally, the museum isn't open, but if you ask the lady at the lovely deli at the Storehouse, she will let you in and turn everything on. There is an exhibition featuring timelines, stories about the Clan Chiefs, and information about how people lived in clan society. The museum also features displays on the local wildlife and a video about the clan. It's quite an interesting museum, especially if you are a Munro. Just don't assume that it is closed - just ask the lady at the counter!'

More from our members, Tanya and John Carlyle, who recently visited Scotland. They share their tips for visiting Clan Munro sites with us. John shared: 'After spending the morning visiting the historic Kiltearn Burial Ground, we warmed up with lunch at the nearby Novar Arms Hotel and some Scottish Cullen Skink soup. This lovely pub, located in the town of Evanton, just north of Inverness, is named after the Munro family of the Novar Estate. The Munros of Novar descend from John Munro, 1st of Milntown, who in turn was the second son of Hugh Munro, 9th Baron of Foulis (d.1425).'

Clan Munro members John and Tanya Carlyle (father and daughter) have recently returned from a trip to Scotland. They share their tips on some of the best Munro sites to visit. First up, Kiltearn Burial Grounds. Tanya said: 'The old parish church and burial ground of Kiltearn, located near Evanton on the shoreline of Cromarty Firth. The old Kiltearn parish church is in ruins and is off-limits to visitors, but the burial ground is very picturesque and interesting, with many old graves, many of them Munros. According to 19th-century historian Alexander Mackenzie, Robert Mor Munro, 15th Baron of Foulis, who died in 1588, was the first Munro chief to be buried at Kiltearn. Of interest is a special section that serves as a memorial to the Munro Clan Chiefs. Successive generations of Munro of Foulis chiefs are interred in the burial enclosure against the west wall.'
