Sydney Collage Society The Sydney Collage Society is a creative pool of artists in Sydney, Australia.

Founded in 2015, by Kubi Vasak (Kubism_) and Leah Early (LA Early), the SCS is here to push the boundaries of cut-and-paste with a focus on celebrating the creative community of Sydney, while also promoting and fostering a healthy appreciation for the art of collage across the whole of Australia through sharing, exhibiting and supporting the works of artists at home and abroad.

Montreal-born, Brooklyn-based artist Allan Bealy has spent the past 15 years making collage the centre of his creative practice. Drawing from a background in art direction and graphic design, Allan approaches collage like painting — building stories through colour, texture and carefully chosen fragments of paper.

For Allan, every cut carries its own history and “DNA”, creating layers of meaning that can only exist through analogue processes.

In our latest interview, Allan shares his thoughts on materials, spontaneity, artistic influences and why understanding the qualities of paper is essential to the collage process.

Join us for an Artist Process Collage Workshop with Sydney Collage Society artist Simon Welsh Simon Welsh

Known for his richly textured mixed media collages, Simon combines embroidery, embellishment and figurative imagery to create works that celebrate identity, transformation and self-expression. A finalist in the Midsumma, Fishers Ghost, Gosford and Wollongong Art Prizes, Simon’s unique approach has made him one of Australia’s exciting contemporary collage artists.

In this immersive 5-hour workshop, Simon will guide you through his creative process, exploring composition, expressive embroidery, intuitive stitching and decorative embellishments to transform figurative imagery into vibrant, tactile artworks. You’ll create your own mixed media piece, ready to continue at home or frame.

✨ We’ll also be welcoming you into our brand-new, sun-filled loft studio at The Dale Studio in Chippendale — a beautiful new creative home for our workshops.

Commissioned by Health Infrastructure NSW and NSW Health, and produced by Marika Perrow, this collaborative public art program was created for the new Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAMHU) on Nepean Hospital’s campus, supporting young people across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Bringing together the practices of Kubi Vasak (Sydney Collage Society), Dharug artist Jessica Tobin, and muralist Andrew Botham-Whetham (Studio Dennis), the commission combined contemporary collage, original paintings and large-scale murals to create a calm, welcoming and restorative environment for patients, families and staff.

Sydney Collage Society artist Kubi Vasak created a series of mixed media collage works inspired by the surrounding Blue Mountains landscape. Combining hand-cut paper, paint and layered textures, the artworks invite moments of curiosity, reflection and calm throughout the hospital.

Andrew Botham-Whetham (Studio Dennis) transformed key spaces in the hospital with an expansive mural.

Inspired by the flora of the Blue Mountains, these works introduce colour,

movement and moments of connection throughout the spaces.

Dharug artist and cultural educator Jessica Mereki Valerie Tobin’s Weaving Stories explores connection to Country, culture and healing through colour, symbolism and layered mark-making.

The outdoor spaces at the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit have been thoughtfully designed to support wellbeing, recovery and connection.

We are excited to welcome Stephen Ormandy to the Sydney Collage Society in 2026.

Stephen is an Australian artist and designer whose practice is grounded in the language of collage—assembling, layering, and reconfiguring shape, colour, and form to create rhythm and visual tension. Working intuitively from the subconscious, his compositions explore the balance of positive and negative space, often hovering between abstraction and figuration.

Across painting, analogue collage, and sculpture, Ormandy treats form as something built and activated, pushing collage beyond the page into an expanded contemporary practice. With decades of international recognition, including exhibitions in New York, London, Milan, Sydney, and Seoul, his work is held in major public collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria, the Powerhouse Museum, Artbank, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
