The Sikh Dharma (the religion of Sikhism) was finalised in Punjab, India, by the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in April, 1699, by means of a 'baptism' ceremony. This ceremony resulted in the creation of the order of the 'Khalsa' (meaning 'the pure ones'), setting out their outer appearance and inner code of conduct. The order of the Khalsa was created to be 'Akaalpurakh Ki Fauj' (t
he army of the Timeless One - i.e., God). A Khalsa (a Sikh) was directed, by the Guru, to be compassionate, righteous, courageous, steadfast and forever imbued in the love for the Lord. Therefore, it is the innate and sole duty of a Sikh to help the helpless, fight injustice and spread love. In doing so, Sikhs look upon all faiths, religions and races with equal respect. They recognise the human race as one; just as they believe that God is one. Being blessed with such a significant responsibility, the army of the Timeless One was also given a distinct uniform, allowing the Sikhs to stand out in the crowd, and be called on by anyone and everyone for help. Fulfilling these duties, the main objectives of Akaal Fauj Inc. in Sydney, are: interfaith community-cohesion programs, charity activities (like free food drives, soup kitchens and other donation programs), and awareness workshops about Sikh faith. Vaheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji ki Fateh (the Khalsa belongs to God, and so does the victory - the 'victory' being the equality and freedom of all).
