Eniwe Children’s Fund is a non-profit organisation committed to improving the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa through housing, feeding and education projects. The children at the orphanage were so much more than just statistics; each had a unique story of pain and loss and yet they approached life with an enthusiasm that is rarely seen in children that have all their day
to day needs met. I was humbled and inspired. It was then that I decided I had to do something, anything, to improve the lives of these lost children and so upon returning to Sydney I established the Eniwe Children’s Fund, a not-for-profit organisation. Since then we have been involved with a community just outside Empangeni in rural Kwazulu-Natal and have set up several sustainable projects for the community that provide them with education, skills and ongoing revenue. In 2014 we expanded our reach and have started working with orphans in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The continued impact of HIV/AIDS have left vulnerable children to fend for themselves. There are many cases where children have lost their parents and are now living alone within the community. We aim to provide these children with continued support in the form of safe living areas, food parcels, education and mentoring programmes. Through donations we have managed to build 11 safe and secure shacks, ‘child headed homes’, in partnership with a Khayelitsha based organisation in just under 2 months. Through the support of the community and social workers we continue to help provide these families with the necessities they need. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, and we wouldn't change a minute of it! With your support we can continue to make a change.
