Reimagine Australia

Reimagine Australia Reimagine is a doing word. An action. It conveys a sense of limitless possibilities.

Reimagine Australia works to breathe-to-life communities, systems, policy and practice that will to ensure that ALL children yet-to-be-born to families yet-to-be-formed have every opportunity to thrive. It means to imagine anew; to form a new conception of; to think about again especially to change or improve; to re-create. By supporting practitioners working with children in their early years, we

are helping families to reimagine the future for their child. By working with government to inform their thinking, we are reimagining service systems and policy to better support the whole of the child and the family not just the 'disability' (which is essential for children to thrive). By reshaping culture at the heart of business, we are reimagining inclusive communities in which families live work and play.

Content warning: This message contains reference to allegations of harm to children. We recognise this content may be distressing, particularly for victim-survivors and families, and encourage readers to engage with this information in a way that prioritises their wellbeing.

We are deeply distressed by recent media reports regarding alleged harm to children involving Todd Soulas who once held a limited, non-operational governance position as Chairman at Reimagine. Abuse and exploitation of children is abhorrent, and our thoughts are with victim-survivors, their families, and affected communities.

For clarity, the individual previously served in an oversight capacity only and had no operational responsibilities, decision-making authority relating to programs, nor involvement in day-to-day activities. Reimagine does not provide services to children, and individuals in governance roles do not have contact with children nor engage in any child-facing work through the organisation.

Police have confirmed that Reimagine is not involved in any related investigations.

We provide this clarification to reassure our stakeholders that no access to children occurred through this individual’s former role, and there is no connection between the alleged conduct and our organisation’s work.

Our thoughts are with the children and families affected. We acknowledge the profound and lifelong harm that abuse causes, and we recognise the courage it takes for victims and families to come forward.

As a children’s peak body, child safety and wellbeing sit at the core of our values, advocacy, and policy work. We have zero tolerance for harm to children and are committed to systems that prevent abuse and uphold children’s rights.

Our Board is actively undertaking a review of all processes to ensure they continue to reflect best practice, community expectations, and our commitment to safeguarding.

We acknowledge and commend the important work of NSW Police and other authorities in investigating matters of this nature and recognise the critical role they play in protecting children and the wider community.

We stand with victim-survivors, and with vulnerable children and their families, and remain committed to advocating for strong, child-safe systems that prevent harm and support accountability, while upholding the safety and rights of all children.

💜NeuroWild at ChildKind 2025💜

We’re thrilled to welcome Em Hammond, Autistic and ADHDer speech pathologist, mum to three neurodivergent kiddos, and the creative mind behind NeuroWild.

Em is widely known for her engaging illustrations and resources about neurodiversity, supporting Autistic and ADHD kids, and making complex ideas simple, accessible, and practical. Her work has become a go-to for families, educators, allied health professionals, and advocates across the world.

✨ Keynote: NeuroWild Things
In her keynote, Em invites us to rethink what is truly the work of the adults. She will reframe common misconceptions around behaviour and communication, shine a light on the less visible aspects of Autistic and ADHD experiences, and explore the dynamics of self-advocacy, including how fawning can show up for kids.

At its heart, Em’s message is a powerful call to be curious – about our kids, ourselves, and the world around us. She offers a window into the lived experience of a neurodivergent brain and reminds us of the permission we all need to meet children exactly where they’re at.

Em’s keynote is not to be missed. Join us at the Childkind 2025 Conference | 26–28 October 2025 | Manly Pacific, Sydney 👇

Shifting the Lens: Embedding Neurodiversity Affirming Practice

How can we move beyond compliance-driven outcomes and instead foster belonging, empowerment, and dignity for all children?

At the Childkind 2025 Conference, we’re thrilled to welcome Sonny Jane as a keynote speaker. In their presentation, Shifting the Lens: Embedding Neurodiversity Affirming Practice, Sonny will challenge us to examine how language, goals, and practices can either reinforce neuronormativity—or actively disrupt it. By applying a neurodiversity affirming lens, practitioners and services can reimagine support that:

✨ Honours differences rather than pathologises them
✨ Moves from “fixing” to fostering belonging and dignity
✨ Celebrates the unique strengths and perspectives of every child

About Sonny Jane:
Sonny Jane is a powerful voice in the neurodiversity space with a mission to challenge neuronormativity and build a neurodiversity-affirming future where neurodivergent people are no longer labelled as disordered. Beginning their advocacy and speaking career in 2018, they have grown into a relatable and passionate q***r, neurodivergent, and disabled public speaker with a national and international presence.

Sonny is the author of two influential books - The Neurodivergent Friendly Workbook of DBT Skills and We’re All Neurodiverse: How to Build a Neurodiversity-Affirming Future and Challenge Neuronormativity. They have worked with organisations and services around the world to shift the narrative on neurodivergence and support the creation of a more inclusive, affirming society.

This keynote will invite attendees to critically reflect on their own practice, challenge traditional models, and take away practical steps for embedding neurodiversity affirming principles across therapy, services, and systems.

Join us by endorsing our response to Thriving Kids

On 20 August 2025, Minister Butler announced the Thriving Kids initiative, shifting children with disability, developmental delay, neurodivergence, and developmental vulnerabilities out of the NDIS into a $2 billion “foundational supports” program.

While ambitious, Reimagine along with many other advocates, peak bodies, parents, carers, and practitioners are concerned the proposal risks harm: it was not co-designed with families or practitioners, it underfunds the scale of need, and it places children into systems that are already failing.

Reimagine Australia has released our collective response: “First, We Build It” — a call to pause, co-design, and rebuild early childhood supports in ways that are inclusive, safe, and grounded in human rights and disability justice.

You can read our DRAFT Position Statement; First, We Build It here:https://reimagine.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/DRAFT-First-We-Build-It.pdf

We are inviting families, practitioners, organisations, and allies to endorse this statement. Endorsements will be included in our submission to the Minister, amplifying our united call for restorative reform.

If you share our concerns and vision, please take a moment to complete this form. By endorsing the statement, you add your voice to a growing coalition calling for reform that is co-designed, inclusive, and grounded in justice. Whether you are a parent, professional, community leader, or ally — your support matters.

Add your details here, by COB Friday 22 August, 2025, to become a co-signatory: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc8Hh9W6eknDT6tR7SiJ9WXaYNUn3zmYuoHyhO1-RFisitPdg/viewform

We have a short window of opportunity to make an impact, so please share this information widely amongst any networks you have across early childhood.
