Not every digital lesson starts with technology.

Sometimes it starts with a treasured photo, a family memory, or the desire to share a special moment with loved ones.

Learning how to organise, store and share photos is often one of the first skills people want to build. Along the way, they gain confidence using technology and discover new ways to stay connected.

And who knows? They might even uncover a few questionable hairstyles and family fashion choices. 😆 📸

Our app of the month is First Table, a restaurant booking app that offers diners 50% off food at participating venues when booking the first table of the day. The platform partners with restaurants across Australia, helping users discover local dining spots while saving on meals.

Users can browse restaurants by location, cuisine or availability, book directly through the app and receive confirmation instantly.

For older Australians, apps like First Table can support social connection by making it easier and more affordable to meet friends and family for a meal or explore new places in the community.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and we all have a role to play in creating a more inclusive and connected future. This year’s theme; 'All In', is a call for all Australians to continue to learn, reflect and take meaningful action together.

At Digital Literacy Foundation, we believe inclusion and connection are at the heart of stronger communities. We remain committed to listening, learning and building respectful relationships with First Nations peoples and communities.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating volunteers like Cheryl 💛

As a Tech Mate volunteer, Cheryl is helping older Australians build confidence with technology one session at a time. Through patience, encouragement, and personalised support, she’s making the digital world feel less overwhelming and more accessible for seniors in our community.

Thank you to Cheryl and all of our incredible volunteers for helping create stronger connections and more inclusive communities every day.

Loneliness can affect people at any age, but for many older Australians, staying socially connected can become more difficult over time. New research from the Australian Research Council is showing how digital storytelling and technology can help change that.

The project, led by Professor Jennifer Waycott at the University of Melbourne, explores how tools like virtual reality, AI and digital storytelling can help older people share memories, reconnect with loved ones and spark meaningful conversations.

We love the story from the research that involved a man living with dementia revisiting his childhood town in Italy through VR, helping him reconnect with memories and share stories with his daughter that had never been discussed before.

A new AI chatbot is being developed to help older Australians stay safe online.

Researchers at UNSW are exploring how AI can support seniors to better understand online risks, answer questions, and build confidence when using technology. The chatbot is designed to provide real time guidance and help users navigate common online safety concerns.

This is exactly the kind of design thinking the digital inclusion sector needs more of - and it reflects what our programs at Digital Literacy Foundation aim to do every day: meet people where they are, build confidence gradually, and make the online world feel like somewhere they belong.
