Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation

Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation We work in partnership to meet the social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and support needs of Coota Girls Survivors and their descendants.

Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation aims to address the complex healing needs of our Stolen Generations Survivors, former residents of the Cootamundra Domestic Training Home for Aboriginal Girls (1912-1969), their families and descendants. Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation aims to address the complex healing needs of our Stolen Generations Survivors and their families who are impacted by forced re

movals under the Aborigines Protection Act (1909-1969). We do this in a practical, holistic manner, in collaboration with community and funding partners, to address Stolen Generations’ trauma. We deliver healing programs, provide direct practical support, advocate for policy change, share the Coota Girls story for truth telling, raise awareness of the impacts of intergenerational trauma, and link Survivors and families to support services.

We just love visiting our Aunties!

One of the most important ways we support our Coota Girls Survivors is by visiting them in their own communities and environments. These visits help us better understand their needs and ensure we are providing the best possible support, care and connection.

A yarn over the phone is always special, but nothing beats sitting down together, sharing a meal and having a yarn face-to-face.

This week, our team travelled to Armidale on the lands of the Anaiwan People, strengthening the relationships that are at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you to our Aunties for welcoming us into your homes and sharing your time with us

Nothing beats spending time face to face with our Coota Girl Survivors.

Our Elder Care Team recently travelled regionally to visit some of our Survivors and their families.

Every visit provides an opportunity to build trust, identify gaps in support, advocate for better health and support outcomes.

We are grateful for every yarn shared, every cup of tea offered, and every opportunity to spend time together. These moments remind us why this work matters and why staying connected to our Survivors will always be our priority.

This Reconciliation Week, we want to acknowledge the many non-First Nations volunteers, supporters, organisations, and community members who stood alongside us throughout our National Sorry Day events.

Reconciliation is action. It is showing up, listening, learning, building relationships, and walking respectfully beside First Nations communities.

Over the weekend, so many people gave their time, energy, and care to help honour Stolen Generations Survivors and families. Every contribution matters.

Reconciliation Week 2026

This year, we encourage everyone to think about what reconciliation looks like in everyday life:

* Attend First Nations events and walk alongside community
* Support First Nations organisations and businesses
* Donate to organisations providing direct supports to Survivors and community
* Check in with your First Nations friends, colleagues, neighbours, and community members
* Take time to listen and learn from truth-telling
* Acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations Survivors
* Say hello to Aunties, Uncles, and Mob in your community — connection matters
* Speak up against racism, stereotypes, and misinformation always!
* Create opportunities, advocate, and use your voice where it counts

If you truly want to make a difference, let today be the day you move reconciliation beyond words and into meaningful action.

Thank you to everyone who stood beside our Survivors this Sorry Day. We invite you to continue walking with us throughout the year.

One of the many ways you can commemorate Sorry Day is attending our inaugural fundraising gala — a beautiful evening of truth-telling, song and dance, connection and giving back.

Our Aunties, families and supporters all dazzled and we raised a significant amount of much needed funds. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, donated, performed, sponsored, volunteered and stood alongside us in support of Coota Girls Stolen Generations Survivors and their families.

Funds raised will have a direct impact through practical supports such as health care, mobility aids, food relief, transport, funeral support and other urgent wellbeing needs for Survivors.

We look forward to growing this event each year and making it even more deadly.

To secure your ticket for next year’s gala, please email [email protected]

Today marks the 29th National Sorry Day.

Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the Stolen Generations, First Nations babies and children who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, Country and culture under past government policies.

Today, we acknowledge the deep hurt, grief and continuing impacts of those forced removals on Stolen Generations Survivors, their families and descendants. The ripple effects of those policies are still felt today.

Please check in with your nan, pop, mums and dads, family, loved ones, First Nations friends and colleagues. Be mindful of how today may be impacting people around you — even passers-by and strangers you meet throughout the day.

Today, we say Sorry.
