Learn about what’s driving food insecurity today: foodbankna.org/foodbank-hunger-report-2025 Foodbank is Australia's largest and most trusted food relief charity, feeding hope to hungry Aussies across NSW and the ACT. More than one in five Aussies faced food insecurity last year, and a third of these had never gone hungry before the pandemic.

Yesterday, we attended the North Western Sydney regional ceremony for the 2026 NSW Volunteer of the Year awards. It was a celebration of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who were nominated by their organisations for their outstanding commitment to community.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Maddox Howe has been awarded Young Volunteer of the Year. Maddox has been part of Foodbank NSW & ACT since October last year and has generously contributed more than 450 hours of his time to supporting our mission.

This regional achievement means Maddox will now represent the North Western Sydney district at the State Awards in December, where the NSW Junior Volunteer of the Year will be announced.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation. Maddox is one of hundreds of incredible people who give their time, energy and heart to ensure those going without have access to the food they need every day.

Two vans. Eleven regional towns. More than 1,200kgs of fresh fruit, water and breakfast items delivered across NSW.

We were proud to support the Goodooga Indigenous Games, where 600 students from 38 schools travelled to the state’s far north‑west to celebrate Aboriginal culture through traditional games. Our team served breakfast using our School Breakfast 4 Health items and handed out free fresh fruit and water throughout the day to help keep everyone fuelled and hydrated.

A huge thank you to the NSW Department of Education for inviting us to be part of this incredible event and for championing community connection across regional NSW.

Today at Foodbank NSW & ACT, our team proudly wore denim for Jeans for Genes Day, standing with the Children’s Medical Research Institute to help fund vital research that changes lives.

At Foodbank, we believe every child deserves the chance to grow, thrive and reach their full potential and that starts with access to nutritious food. With one in five Aussie children going to school hungry, our mission to end hunger is deeply connected to the wellbeing of families and children across NSW and the ACT.

Supporting Jeans for Genes is another way we show up for children who need us most.
