* Meet Sam - Our Clinical Masters Student Placement @ The Resilience Centre *

Sam is thriving in his final student placement with us, completing his Master of Clinical Psychology - his 6th year of study in Psychology.

With a background in Youth Work, the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, and NDIS Mental Health Support Work, Sam has a lot of skills to offer our clients here.

He is now taking his final clients - children, adolescents, and adults (including parents), with reduced session prices, under the Clinical Supervision of Dr Lyn Worsley.

* New Blog: Beyond the HSC Pressure Cooker: Rethinking How We Bridge School and University *

Every year as Term 4 approaches, a familiar tension takes hold across senior secondary education. Students, parents, and educators find themselves caught in a high stakes balancing act between academic performance and mental wellbeing.

At the centre of this debate sits a growing phenomenon: early university entry. For years, the final weeks of Year 12 were defined by a single, high-stakes metric, being the HSC.

Today, more than 50% of students receive provisional university offers based on Year 11 academic performance and school recommendations.

Clinical Psychologist Michelle Wotton from The Resilience Centre guides up through this new shift and its implications for the balance between the academics and wellbeing of our HSC students.

A timely insight while we are in the middle of the HSC, have a read of it:

* 24 Months On Conference - Canberra ACT 2026 *

Two years after the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Su***de, the Pro Patria Centre held a conference in Canberra ACT to examine the evidence, assess real-world outcomes, and ask the question: "What is working, and how do we build on it?", building on the foundation of the '12 Months On Conference' in 2025

Our Clinical Psychologists Joe Alberts and Michelle Wotton, as well as our Jacqui Van de Velde as one of the organisers, attended the day to participate further through our already existing partnership as a Regional NSW Centre providing therapy to support veterans, first responders and their families.

Thank You for letting us be a part of the conversation to measure policy against progress.

It's that time of year again and we are approaching the HSC for our Year 12 Students across NSW. When we think about the results from their final exams and the meaning of success in life as a whole, it is helpful to have a reminder that qualities like resilience, empathy and creativity remain at the top of predictors for what it means to be successful, long term ...

In this powerful TED-Talk, Angela Lee Duckworth takes us through her journey of leaving a high-flying job in consulting to teach maths to Year 7 students in a school. During her time as a teacher, she learnt that the quality of 'grit' is a powerful predictor of sustainable success. Passion, perserverence and we also think 'purpose' are all contributors to what is means to be successful:

'Why Every Teenage Boy Needs a Positive Role Model'

For teenage boys, influence often works less through what we say and more through who they get to watch. Our Clinical Psychology Masters Student, Sam McKenzie spent six months working with young men in youth corrections.

The boys he worked with changed when they were around someone they genuinely respected and wanted to be like. The research on adolescent boys says exactly the same thing. Boys learn by watching, not by being told ...
