Act for Peace

Act for Peace Together, we’re creating a world where people uprooted by conflict and disaster have a safe place to belong.

Act for Peace works with and for people around the world who are uprooted by conflict and disaster. We invest in local organisations and join forces to create lasting change, helping empower people to regain the peace that comes with having a safe place to belong. Act for Peace has been bringing compassionate people together for over 75 years to back displaced people, build unity, and transform th

e system. We are an international humanitarian agency that stands with people facing and experiencing displacement, to amplify their voices and help shape locally led solutions. As the international humanitarian agency of the National Council of Churches in Australia, we are confronting human injustice together through the global Act Alliance. In caring for humankind together, we’re acting for peace in the world.

On World Environment Day, we celebrate an innovative water rehabilitation project that has this community in Zaka District, Zimbabwe, dancing for joy.

For climate-affected communities, protecting the environment and ensuring they have access to water is helping prevent displacement. ♻️🌳💧🕊

In Zaka community, the wetlands have been rehabilitated through local partner, Christian Care Zimbabwe. Now they have a reliable source of water, the community can grow food and earn an income. They've even started a community orchard, gaining skills in growing and caring for fruit trees which they can apply to their own home garden projects.

Now that's worth celebrating!

Forced displacement and settlement expansion undermine the prospects for a just and lasting peace in Israel and Palestine.

Demolition and evictions of Palestinians from their homes have been accelerating at an alarming pace as Israel proceeds with the unlawful expansion of settlements.

We join calls from across the international community for international law to be upheld and for the rights and dignity of Palestinian communities to be protected.

We condemn Israel’s recent decision to confiscate 27 acres of land surrounding Nabi Samuel village, including the mosque and cemetery. Reports suggest 57 of the 115 homes have already been demolished.

These actions come as Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered the army to seize control of 70% of the Gaza strip which will mean the 2.2 million Palestinian survivors will be forced into a space less than a third of the size of their original, overcrowded territory.

A just and lasting peace requires the protection of civilians, respect for international law, and the recognition of every person's right to live safely in their home and community.

Please join us in calling on the Australian Government to advocate for these principles and work towards a just peace for all people in the region.

You can’t stop disasters.

But you can change what happens next.

In Makassar, Indonesia, floods can take everything in a moment—homes, livelihoods, even a sense of safety.

But together, we can help families prepare before disasters strike, so they can stay safe and rebuild.

“It became like this little by little.”

Through support and training, Adifa rebuilt her small business—step by step.

📸 We are proud to share the Australian Embassy, Zimbabwe has selected several photographs of Act for Peace/Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP)-supported projects to display in their upcoming 2026 photo exhibition in Bulawayo.

The exhibition is linked to the African Union and Africa Day theme on water, showcasing how water supports health, livelihoods, climate resilience and sustainable development across Zimbabwe. We are proud to work alongside local partners Zimbabwe Council of Churches and Christian Care Zimbabwe addressing and preventing displacement and helping build safe, peaceful communities.
