A final snapshot from the 2026 Australian Community Demographic Survey. 🇧🇷✨
As we wrap up sharing the survey results, one thing stands out clearly - Australia’s Samba community is wonderfully diverse, multicultural, and deeply connected to both local and global stories. 💛💚
𝐀 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
🌏 73% speak English as their first language
👨👩👧👦 41% have immigrant parents
🇦🇺 4% identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
🇧🇷 11% identify as having Brazilian heritage
🇻🇪 7% identify as having broader South American heritage
Looking at where participants were born also highlights the international nature of our community:
🇦🇺 50% Australia (shared previously)
🇬🇧 9% United Kingdom
🇧🇷 8% Brazil
🇫🇷 4% France
Perhaps the most fascinating takeaway is that while the majority of participants speak English as their first language, nearly half come from immigrant family backgrounds. It speaks to Samba’s unique ability to bring together people from different cultures, generations, and life experiences. 🥁💃
The survey reinforces something many of us already feel - Samba in Australia is not simply an imported cultural practice. It has become a distinctly Australian community, enriched by Brazilian roots, Indigenous voices, migrant stories, and local creativity.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped build the most comprehensive snapshot of our community to date. The insights gathered will help inform future research, advocacy, cultural development, and community building across Australia. 🇦🇺🇧🇷
