On Tuesday 26 May, our Be Hope community heard from Dr Gill Hicks - survivor of the 7/7 London bombings and lifelong advocate for peace, compassion, and human connection.

Opening the session, Results Australia CEO Negaya Chorley reflected on why Be Hope matters right now: because even in difficult times, ordinary people still have the power to help shape a better future.

Gill reminded us that we always have a choice in how we respond to the world around us - not with cynicism or despair, but with courage, compassion, and action.

Thank you to everyone who joined this powerful Stories That Change the World conversation with our Be Hope Ambassador Briony Benjamin.

Most of the progress we enjoy today exists because someone, somewhere, decided not to give up.

That's how movements begin.
That's how change happens.
That's how hope works.

Australia spends just 63 cents in every $100 on overseas aid.

At a time when global challenges are rising, that’s one of the smallest, yet most important, investments we make.

Australia’s overseas aid (ODA) helps strengthen health systems, prevent conflict, and support stability across our region.

Through the Be Hope campaign, Results is calling for greater investment in ODA and global health. And as part of the Safer World for All campaign, we’re working alongside our NGO colleagues to build support for a stronger, more effective Australian aid program.

Because a safer, more stable world isn’t built by chance. It’s built by what we choose to invest in.

An important point is made in this powerful New York Times piece: that ordinary people are not powerless. Read it here: https://bit.ly/4wOBoOo

New York Times journalist, Nicholas Kristof, points to advocacy and organisations like Results as one of the most effective ways people can push back against decisions that harm vulnerable communities around the world.

It’s also why organisations like Results exist: to help everyday people better understand these issues, connect with others who care, and find practical ways to use their voice.

At a time when many people feel overwhelmed by the state of the world, that kind of collective action feels more important than ever.

The future is not written yet.
And neither is Australia’s role in it.

Be Hope focuses on the belief that this country can be a force for good in the world - with bold, compassionate leadership for:

🌍 People
A world where every person can access healthcare, education, safety, and opportunity.

🌱 Planet
A future shaped by climate action, protection of our environment, and care for generations to come.

🕊️ Peace
Choosing cooperation, dialogue, and humanity in an increasingly divided world.

Because history has always changed when ordinary people decided to step forward and build something better together.

This is what Be Hope is about.
For People. For Planet. For Peace.
