✨ THE REGIONAL ARTS FUND: Mentorship with emerging artist Tori Ann Donnelly and contemporary artist Karla Dickens ✨

In January 2026, The Regional Arts Fund: Quick Response Grants funded a rare professional development opportunity between emerging artist Tori Ann Donnelly and fellow First Nations contemporary artist Karla Dickens.

This mentorship offered significant cultural and professional knowledge exchange between the two artists and allowed for collaboration and exploration in a culturally safe space. Dickens’ professional expertise as a successfully established contemporary artist was particularly beneficial to Donnelly at this stage of her career as she moves into a more established position as a contemporary artist and community leader in the arts sector. Limited by an eight-week period of availability, the funding provided immediate support that allowed for professional development to occur at a crucial time.

Dickens stated, “As a senior artist it is always an honour and encouraging for me to work with such talent and hope. I’d like to give Tori Ann a huge thanks for sharing herself, culture and visions with me. I look forward to watching the future development of this exciting and capable young Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung woman, artist and leader.”

Regional Arts NSW thanks both artists for their partnership through the Regional Arts Fund and looks forward to seeing the ongoing development for both artists.

💚 RANSW Advisory Council appoints 3 new Board Directors 💚

On Wednesday 20th May 2026, Regional Arts NSW held our annual in-person Advisory Council meeting, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Dinner at our office in The Rocks NSW.

Our Advisory Council is made up of the Board Chairs of each member Regional Arts Development Organisation (RADO) from across NSW. We really value this time with our RADO representatives because we can hear their concerns, struggles and successes. We can also stand together as a network of art support organisations to help create a stronger arts sector in regional NSW as a whole.

This year RANSW is farewelling our Board Chair Dr Jane Kreis , Deputy ChairJulia Andrews, Treasurer, Ray Davey and Board Director Lorrayne Fishenden. We would like to sincerely thank all these people for their significant contributions to our organisation as members of our Board. In particular, we would like to thank Jane for her work as our Chair since 2023. We will miss you all very much!

At the AGM the Advisory Council and RANSW Board appointed three new regional Board Directors. We are welcoming Matthew Hall, Leigh Small and Natalie Bramble. We look forward to working with them and value the skills they bring to our Board.

Caroline Downer OAM has been appointed interim Chair of the RANSW Board, Tim Kurylowicz is now our Deputy-Chair and Natalie Bramble will take on the role of Treasurer.

We would like to extend our thanks to the Advisory Council and our Board for travelling to Sydney to meet with us. As our outgoing Board Chair Jane says, ‘We are stronger together than we are alone’.

💚 REGIONAL ARTS FUND: Dinner Party at the End of the World 💚

'Dinner Party at the End of the World' was a multi-artform program held in 2025, inspired by stories of the Lismore floods. It was produced by Northern Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA) and consisted of a team of artists that led creative development projects, working with Northern Rivers residents.

Artists and participants responded to the climate crisis through a range of performance practices, including theatre-making, play, improvisation, dance and text. Through this, they reflected on stories of community, resilience, and the ways people come together in a time of crisis.

“I hope we can show people that no matter what happens, we can build a better future together. The end is also the beginning and I’d love to paint a picture of what could be that doesn’t instil fear but rather hope in our collective humanity. It’s up to artists to show humanity how to change the world. We have to show what’s possible and Lismore did that,” one artist stated.

'Dinner Party at the End of the World' is a testament to the importance of supporting regional creatives, who play a crucial role in cultivating social, economic and cultural cohesion and wellbeing, particularly in response to climate change. The project also shows us that the arts have significant potential to help communities recover from natural disaster.

This project was supported by the Regional Arts Fund, part of the Australian Government’s Arts and Cultural Development Program managed by Regional Arts Australia. Regional Arts NSW administers this grant in NSW and is proud to have been involved in making this project happen.
