What if lifelong learning was about more than getting a job?
We often talk about lifelong learning in terms of reskilling, productivity and preparing people for a changing workforce.
And yes, that matters. But learning throughout life can offer so much more.
People learn to:
* build confidence
* stay connected
* explore creativity
* keep mentally active
* discover new interests
* contribute to their communities
* and simply keep growing.
Recent research from Jobs and Skills Australia highlights how rapidly changing skills, industry disruption, job mobility and an ageing population are making lifelong learning increasingly important.
But importantly, Jobs and Skills Australia also recognises that lifelong learning delivers benefits beyond the workforce, including health and wellbeing, personal development, social connection and civic engagement.
At WEA Sydney, we believe this is what lifelong learning looks like.
It might be learning a language. Exploring history. Picking up a paintbrush. Understanding your smartphone. Joining a discussion. Trying something you've always wanted to learn.
Sometimes learning changes what you do. Sometimes it changes how you see the world. And sometimes, it simply makes life more interesting.
Lifelong learning isn't just about staying employable. It's about staying curious, connected and engaged with the world around us.
