Action-packed Manly Wharf Bridge to Beach race just 3 weeks away! It's a spectacular 11km paddle across Sydney Harbour, from Blues Point to Manly Cove. We're so proud to be charity partner for this event. Since 2014 the paddlers and donors have raised funds to support our specialist FX counselling service 🙏

After the race - we're going back to Felons Brewing Co. Manly for race presentations.

Massive shoutout to race organiser OceanPaddler and race sponsor Shaw and Partners for having us on board.

If you're in Manly on the day, drop by the Wharf and join us to watch the paddlers cross the finish line.

We're heading to Hobart next week for the annual Speakout Disability Expo. It's a great chance for us to chat to service providers who have people with Fragile X syndrome in their care, and to catch up with some of our members based in Tassie.

Genetics & Fragile X - great day talking with GPs about the genetics involved in the spectrum of Fragile X disorders, and the varied ways people can be affected by the FMR1 Fragile X premutation. 

Another good opportunity to profile reproductive carrier screening and the genetic counselling and other supports that need to come into play for people who learn they are carriers for FX.

Shoutout to our President Dr Lawrie Bott for fielding the detailed questions on testing and screening and keeping our Executive Director company! Busy day for sure, with around 1300 health professionals here for a full day educational program. GPs

Inspired by her son Oliver, Melissa Barker has created a children’s picture book to help families, schools and professionals talk about Fragile X syndrome with greater understanding and confidence.

Every page contains a piece of Oliver’s real life. His speech therapist, occupational therapist, paediatrician, teacher and friends all appear as characters in the story, recognising the people who have supported him and helped shape his world. Melissa says "Oliver's world is full of adventure, laughter, determination, challenges, friendships and love, just like any other child’s. Fragile X is part of his story, but it doesn’t define who he is.”
