Bridging Traditional Wisdom & Evidence-Based Care
Health equity means respecting culture while saving lives. The Cultural & Scientific Medicines Project at MaRSDA addresses the gap where modern medicine meets traditional beliefs.
The Challenge faced by many regions in the Mano River Basin is that patients tend to turn to traditional medicine first before seeking other treatments. Research shows that while cultural trust is high (65% preference), delays in seeking clinical care can lead to advanced disease stages.
At MaRSDA, we are creating an integrative model—partnering with local healers and scientific researchers.
Our goal is to align traditional medicine with public health standards, following WAHO's African Medicine harmonization initiatives.
Our beneficiaries include children, people with chronic illnesses, remote communities, and disaster victims.
To our PBI Funders: We need partners to fund cross-sector collaboration and culturally sensitive health education. Help us prove that traditional medicine and modern research can coexist to heal the most vulnerable.
