Bridging Traditional Wisdom & Evidence-Based Care

Health equity means respecting culture while saving lives. The Cultural & Scientific Medicines Project at MaRSDA addresses the gap where modern medicine meets traditional beliefs.

The Challenge faced by many regions in the Mano River Basin is that patients tend to turn to traditional medicine first before seeking other treatments. Research shows that while cultural trust is high (65% preference), delays in seeking clinical care can lead to advanced disease stages.

At MaRSDA, we are creating an integrative model—partnering with local healers and scientific researchers.

Our goal is to align traditional medicine with public health standards, following WAHO's African Medicine harmonization initiatives.

Our beneficiaries include children, people with chronic illnesses, remote communities, and disaster victims.

To our PBI Funders: We need partners to fund cross-sector collaboration and culturally sensitive health education. Help us prove that traditional medicine and modern research can coexist to heal the most vulnerable.

Kissi Literacy Program

Revitalizing the Kissi Language in the Digital Age

At MaRSDA, we believe that education begins with identity. Our Kissi Literacy Program is not just about reading and writing; it is about restoring dignity and preserving the rich linguistic heritage of the Mano River Region.

This concept highlights the Kissi language as a remarkable tonal gem from West Africa. In a world where less than 2% of languages have a real presence online, we are leveraging digital technology to keep it alive.

Our current projects directly impact:

- 350+ active participants in our WhatsApp Chat Group;
-. Serving all demographics—from early childhood to the elderly, including migrants and disadvantaged families in Australia and Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea; and
- Building digital resources through community crowdsourcing, following successful approaches for preserving the Kissi language.

We humbly call Public Benevolent Institutions (PBI) Funders to help us scale this model. Your support funds the transition from WhatsApp groups to a full-scale Open Knowledge platform. Together, we can advance education for the most vulnerable while protecting intangible cultural heritage.
