Wanda was established in 1946 after the Second World War by a group of returned servicemen and the colours of Army Red, Air Force Blue and Navy Blue were adopted as the club colours. Since this time Wanda has grown to its current membership of over 900 male and female members ranging from the 5 year old Nippers to the original Founding Members.

This National Volunteer Week, we proudly recognise our incredible volunteers.

With more than 10,000 patrol hours this season, our members have proudly served the community, and continued Wanda’s strong tradition of lifesaving service.

Across every patrol, training session, event, competition and behind-the-scenes role, our volunteers give their time, energy and commitment to keeping our beach and community safe.

From our patrolling members and age managers to coaches, officials, water safety, trainers, committee members and support crews, Wanda simply wouldn’t exist without you.

Thank you for the early mornings, the long days, the teamwork and the care you show others.

THANK YOU.

Today we remember those who have served our country, and reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the enduring spirit of service that continues today, including through surf lifesaving. Wanda’s colours proudly reflect our founding members’ connection to the armed services.

Wanda was honoured to be represented at Dawn Services across the Shire. At Cronulla, our President and Nipper Captains laid a wreath, while two Wanda boat crews took part in the re-enactment alongside other Bate Bay crews.

Lest we forget.

This weekend, we come together at Wanda.

Tomorrow, we honour ANZAC Day — paying tribute to those who have served, and the legacy that lives on in our Club’s story and in the colours we wear with pride.

The Founders Room will be open — come down and enjoy the atmosphere, the views and a traditional game of two-up.

Sunday and Monday mark our final patrols of the season. We extend our sincere thanks to every volunteer who dedicates their time, energy and commitment to keeping our beach and community safe.

Building for the Future — Stage 3 Funding Secured for Wanda

We are pleased to announce that our club has been successful in securing significant funding through the NSW Government’s Surf Club Facilities Program, administered by the Office of Sport, to support our Stage 3 redevelopment.

Last Tuesday, Wanda hosted the official funding announcement at Wanda Beach, where our President, Fiona Sutton, welcomed representatives and highlighted the importance of this investment in strengthening our lifesaving capability and supporting our volunteers into the future.

We sincerely acknowledge and thank:

• The NSW State Government
• The Office of Sport
• The Hon. Steve Kamper MP, Minister for Sport
• Surf Life Saving NSW
• Surf Life Saving Australia’s Grant Seeking Unit

We also recognise the vision, commitment and long-term planning of our Building Committee and Board, whose work over a number of years has positioned the club to deliver this important next stage.

This investment will deliver critical improvements to our clubhouse, including:

• Expanded and modernised lifesaving equipment storage
• A larger multi-purpose space for education, training and community use
• Improved visibility for our lifesavers while on patrol
• Upgraded office and meeting facilities

Importantly, this project strengthens our ability to keep our community safe, while creating more inclusive, functional and future-ready spaces for our members.

Construction will commence immediately following our final patrols over the ANZAC Day weekend, with completion scheduled ahead of the new patrol season in September — ensuring minimal disruption to our lifesaving services.

We also acknowledge the incredible contribution of our members, whose support, advocacy and hands-on efforts — including a huge recent working bee — continue to bring our “One Club” vision to life.

This is a significant milestone for Wanda, and an exciting step forward for our members and the community we serve.

A message from our President:

What a week for Wanda. Just WOW.

To finish 2nd overall with a club record 223 points and 22 gold medals is an incredible achievement, particularly against some of the biggest and most professional clubs in the country.

We kicked things off with the Youth Championships last weekend — and didn’t they set the tone for the week. The future of Wanda was on full display and gave us all a real glimpse of what lies ahead.

We didn't think we could top that, but the week of Open competition just kept delivering.

What’s been most pleasing is that this was a true "One Club" performance — across March Past, Boats, R&R, Water, Beach, Lifesaving and Adaptive events. That says a lot about the depth and culture of this club.

I’ve never been prouder watching our competitors represent Wanda the way they did — with determination, pride, and respect. Just as importantly, the way we carried ourselves all week reflected exactly what this club stands for.

Over the past 24 hours, the messages of support from our own members and from other clubs have been overwhelming. People have been genuinely amazed at what the club has achieved.

This doesn’t happen overnight — it’s the result of years of effort from many people across the club.

Importantly, this result caps off a remarkable season — NSW State Champions in both Nippers and Open, followed by 2nd overall at Aussies. That consistency across all levels is something special.

A huge thank you to our coaches, officials, water safety, IRB crews, team managers, volunteers and all those working behind the scenes — this doesn’t happen without you.

And to our members — especially those who made the trip — thank you for your support.

A season to remember. Plenty to be proud of — and plenty to build on.

Go Wanda!
