On Saturday 30 May, Kate completed an incredible 12-hour walk for Step up for Parkinson’s.

She walked for her husband Troy, her father Keith, her grandfather, and for every family navigating the reality of Parkinson’s.

What started as a fundraising and awareness challenge became something truly special.

From sunrise through to the final steps, people showed up. Family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and members of the Parkinson’s community walked with Kate, cheered her on, volunteered their time, shared stories, bought raffle tickets, made donations and helped create an atmosphere filled with encouragement, friendship and support.

Kate was overwhelmed by the generosity, kindness and love that surrounded her and Troy.

As the month long Step Up for Parkinson’s challenge comes to a close today, we’re celebrating not only an amazing fundraising achievement, but the people who made it possible.

Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, volunteered, supported and believed in what Kate and all our Steppers set out to achieve.

What a day. What a community.
What a reminder that we can do hard things when we do them together 💜

Celebrating the incredible people making a difference in the Parkinson’s community 💜

Parkinson’s NSW and the Sherman family were proud to present the inaugural Brian Sherman Memorial Awards, recognising individuals whose compassion, advocacy and community spirit are helping support people impacted by Parkinson’s.

Congratulations to:
💜 Gillian O’Connor - Parkinson’s Advocate of the Year
💜 Graham Saxby - Parkinson’s Community Spirit Award

Honourable Mentions:
💜 Emma Tinkler
💜 Vivienne Ross

The awards honour the legacy of the late Brian Sherman AM, whose determination and commitment to the Parkinson’s community continue to inspire others.

A heartfelt thank you to the Sherman family, to everyone who submitted nominations, and all those making a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their families every day.

These inaugural awards marked the beginning of what we hope will become a lasting celebration of the individuals helping strengthen and support the Parkinson’s community. We look forward to the 2027 Brian Sherman Memorial Awards.

The global Parkinson’s community has come together in Phoenix, Arizona for the 7th World Parkinson Congress and Parkinson’s NSW is proud to be part of it 💜

Our team is on the ground connecting with researchers, clinicians, advocates, support leaders and people living with Parkinson’s from around the world, all united by a shared commitment to improving life with Parkinson’s.

From inspiring keynote sessions and the latest research updates, to conversations about care, wellness, advocacy and lived experience, there has already been so much learning and connection across the Congress.

We’ve loved seeing familiar faces, meeting global leaders in Parkinson’s care and research, and sharing ideas that can help strengthen support for our community back home.

The Parkinson’s NSW team has had the opportunity to connect with internationally recognised Parkinson’s leaders Professor Bas Bloem and Dr Michael Okun author of The Parkinson's Plan, while attending sessions exploring the future of Parkinson’s diagnosis, treatment and care.
There has been a strong focus on wellness, movement and lived experience. And of course, there’s also been plenty of community spirit, new friendships and a few fun moments with the WPC mascot Parky the Raccoon.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

Every 40 minutes, someone in Australia is diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Behind each diagnosis is a person, a family, and a future that suddenly looks very different.

This is where Parkinson’s NSW comes in, providing specialist nurses, counselling and practical support.

What if something sitting at home could help make that possible? Old gold jewellery, broken pieces, items you no longer wear.

Through Gold4good, these forgotten items can be recycled and transformed into vital support for people living with Parkinson’s.

✨ Donate gold in any condition
🌱 Better for the planet
❤️ Life changing for families
